A.J. Owens got on base both of his times at bat and added four RBIs for the Red Devils.

David Taylor went the distance to sustain the loss. He allowed 10 earned runs, struck out two and walked four batters.

Austin White had the lone hit for Delta (0-11, 0-4).

Bailey Cook was the winning pitcher. He threw four innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Ian Torrey got the save, pitching the final three innings in which he gave up no runs on two hits and recorded four strikeouts and one walk.

Connor Barham hit a triple and had two RBIs to lead Portageville (7-6).

Bobby Wright blasted a grand slam as the defending Class 1 state champion Cubs proved to be too much for the Blue Jays to handle in the five-inning romp at home.

Cole Nichols didn't allow a hit in three innings to get the win on the mound. He had seven strikeouts and also belted a triple and drove in four runs. Austin Hicks hit a double and added four RBIs to lead Bell City (9-2).

Sylvester Morse endured the pitching loss. He threw two innings and gave up 21 runs (18 earned) on 13 hits. He walked 10 batters and struck out two.

Jordan Barker, Tyee Curry and Josh Pratt each had a hit to pace Oak Ridge (3-8).

GIRLS SOCCER

Cape Central 5, Ritenour 1

Mattie Huff netted three goals to lead the Tigers to victory over the Huskies in their second round of pool play in the 8th Annual Hillsboro Tournament.

Calli House added two goals for Cape Central. The Tigers conclude pool play against Fredericktown at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Ritenour dropped its overall record to 3-5 with the loss.

Notre Dame 2, St. Vincent 1

Megan Heisserer had one goal and one assist as the Bulldogs edged the Indians on the road.

Alaina Baumgart scored the other goal for Notre Dame (5-2). Rylie Gant had one assist for the Bulldogs.

Megan Hennemann netted the lone goal for St. Vincent (5-3) on an assist from Kaiti Schnurbusch.

Goalkeeper Courtney Brewer had four saves for the Indians.

Saxony Lutheran 6, Poplar Bluff 1

Laurel Mueller scored three goals to lead the Crusaders in the road win over the Mules.

Maddie Brune netted two goals and had one assist for Saxony Lutheran (7-1). Grace Mirly had the other goal and dished out two assists for the Crusaders while Brianna Mueller and Logan Welker had one assist apiece.

Poplar Bluff fell to 6-5 with the loss.

TRACK & FIELD

Tiger Town Invitational

The Jackson girls track and field team placed first in four events to win the championship of the Tiger Town Invitational in Festus, Mo.

Nicole Humphreys led the way for the Indians, capturing first place in the discus and shot put events. The Indians' pact of Megan Barnum, Chelsea Drum, Emma Masterson and Kaylee Wilson also posted a first-place time of 9 minutes, 58.02 seconds in the 3200 run, besting host Festus (10:13.41) in the event. Drum also placed first in the 800 run with a time of 2 minutes, 21.57 seconds for the Indians, who finished 18 points ahead of regional foe Poplar Bluff to take the team championship. The Mules did, however, win the boys' division, finishing 36 points in front of the host Tigers. Jackson took third in the boys' division, and the Indians were propelled by Caleb Bess's first-place victory in the 800 run as well as Dane Evans's winning throw of 49 feet, 8.25 inches in the shot put. The Indians also won the 3200 relay.

Also in the girls' category, Courtney Jones won first place in the high jump for Notre Dame. The Bulldogs finished five points behind the host Tigers in fifth place overall in the team standings.

Chaffee Open

The Woodland boys and the Chaffee girls track and field teams claimed the first-place titles at the Chaffee Open.

Cole Schlief and Tyler Massa each won two events on the boys side to lead the Cardinals, who finished 76.5 points ahead of Scott City. The Rams won three of the four relay relays and were aided by first-place finishes in the 400 dash by Noah Hahn and Isaac Pennington in the long jump.

The host Red Devils finished with a comfortable lead in the girls division. Chaffee swept all four relays and Mary Beth Knutson captured the gold in both of the hurdles and the triple jump event for the Red Devils, who placed 181 points ahead of Saxony Lutheran and Scott City, both of whom tied for second place. Rachel Perry clinched the gold in the discus and shot put for the Rams while Khloe Koch won a pair of events for the Crusaders.
