CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Top-seeded Kelly and No. 3 Scott City each advanced in the winners' bracket with victories in the Chaffee Lady Devils girls basketball tournament Wednesday night.
Kelly improved to 6-0 with a 69-40 win over No. 5 Chaffee in a semifinal game, while the Lady Rams (2-1) posted a 57-31 win over No. 6 Delta in a first-round contest.
In a consolation semifinal, No. 4 Oran knocked off No. 8 East Prairie 50-24.
In the Scott City game, Loren Groves scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
"She really battled hard on the boards," said Scott City coach Randy White. "I tell you what, I thought we played very well defensively. We had a lot of players step up."
Also for Scott City, Rachel Spinks scored 11 points and Ashley Lynn added 10.
Jenny Pinkston scored eight points, dished out seven assists and came up with six steals for the Lady Rams.
Rebecca Below led Delta with 18 points. Only five Lady Bobcats found the scoring column.
Scott City will take on No. 2 Sikeston in the championship semifinals at 8 tonight.
In the Kelly's win over Chaffee, the Lady Hawks had three players in double figures, led by Bridgett Riley with 20 points. Marissa Essner followed with 18 and Nicole Kern added 14.
"The thing about it, each girl who got the points, got them because other players got it to them," said Kelly coach Rod McQuerter. "Chaffee had tough guards, but we were very patient and had a lot of assists."
Jennifer Vandeven led Chaffee (2-2) with 18 points.
Maria Eftink and Ashley Dirnberger scored 14 points apiece for Oran (1-1), while the Lady Eagles held East Prairie to eight points or less in every quarter.

Cape triangular
Cape Central (118 points) took second place and Notre Dame (62) finished third in a tri-meet with Kirkwood (148) at the Cape Central Pool.
The Tigers had four first-place finishes and took first and second places in diving and the 100 backstroke.
"In the first few events, they were one or two seconds behind (Kirkwood)," said Cape Central coach Dayna Powell. "Last year we didn't do very well against them. But we won some of the later events and kind of hung in there with them this year and it was encouraging."
Notre Dame, participating in its first year of swimming, placed third in two events.

JV BOYS BASKETBALL
Meadow Heights Tourney
PATTON, Mo. -- Host Meadow Heights and St. Vincent will play for the championship tonight after posting wins over Fredericktown and Notre Dame, respectively.
Meadow Heights got 30 points from Joe Bell and 20 from Josh Fulton in its 65-57 win over the Blackcats. Cory Cissel scored 23 for Fredericktown.
St. Vincent defeated Notre Dame 50-45. Matt Wengert scored 19 for St. Vincent, while Wayne Essner led Notre Dame with 23 points.
Scott City had four players score in double figures in posting a 61-37 victory over Marquand in the consolation semifinals.
Jeremy Schlosser led Scott City with 14 points followed by Andy Beck with 13, Darren Willey with 11 and Tyler Ward with 10.
Woodland got 15 points from Bobby Cueton to post a 53-29 win over Leopold. Brandon Bueter led the Wildcats with 14 points.
Scott City will meet Woodland for the consolation championship at 5 p.m., while Fredericktown and Notre Dame will battle for third at 6:15.
JR HIGH BOYS BASKETBALL
Central sweeps Jackson
JACKSON, Mo. -- Cape Central's eighth- and ninth-grade basketball teams swept Jackson Wednesday night.
Central's ninth-grade team improved to 6-0 with a 65-58 victory. Michael Brown scored 20 points and Mitch Craft added 17 for the Tigers.
The Tigers won the eighth-grade game 55-39 behind 25 points by Lorenzo Braxton and 17 by Brandon Twiggs. Central's eighth-grade team improved to 4-1.
