Right fielder Juan Encarnacion, hampered by a sore left wrist in the postseason, has undergone what the Cardinals characterized as minor surgery. Encarnacion had the operation last week in St. Louis. He's expected to be ready for spring training. Encarnacion batted .278 with 19 homers and 79 RBIs in the first year of a three-year, $15 million contract.

• The Cardinals and infielder Aaron Miles avoided arbitration Tuesday, agreeing to a $1 million, one-year contract ahead of the deadline for teams to offer deals to unsigned players on their 40-man rosters. The 29-year-old hit .263 with two home runs and 30 RBIs in 135 games.
• The Cardinals and U.S. Cellular announced Wednesday that the trophy will go on a three-state tour of Missouri, southern Illinois and northeast Oklahoma. Most of the appearances will be at U.S. Cellular stores. The tour schedule will be posted on www.stlcardinals.com.
• Former Orioles pitcher Dennis Martinez will be the pitching coach for the Cardinals' new rookie league team in the Gulf Coast League, based in Jupiter, Fla.
