Basketball

  • Doctors-Lawyers game: The 14th annual Doctors-Lawyers Basketball Showdown is scheduled for 5 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Central High School gym. Proceeds benefit Community Counseling Center Foundation. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased at any Community Counseling Center location, Cape County Medical Society or from any Community Counseling Center Foundation board member.
  • Alumni tournament: The Scott City Park Board will host the 22nd annual men's alumni basketball tournament on March 23 and 24. Team captains will need to pick up a roster form and return it by March 19. The field is limited to the first eight teams. Info: (573) 264-3411.

Golf

  • St. Joseph tournament: The fourth annual St. Joseph Chargers Golf Classic is scheduled for April 27 at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. The event raises funds for St. Joseph Catholic School in Scott City. The registration fee is $85 per player and includes cart, greens fees, lunch, dinner and beverages. Running

  • Presidents Day 5K: The Allen Laws Oliver Chapter of The Missouri Society of The National Society Sons of the American Revolution will sponsor the annual Presidents Day 5-kilometer run on Saturday. The event will begin and end at Red Star Baptist Church at 1301 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau and cover a new course. Registration will be 7:15 to 7:45 a.m. on race day with the run to begin at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $12 by Friday and $15 on race day. Checks made out to SAR can be sent to Jerry Driver, Ph.D., P.O.   • Super Kids event: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department's annual Super Kids Race Day event is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Southeast Missouri State Recreation Center. The event is open to crawlers all the way through 15-year-olds, and is sponsored by A Small World Pre-School and Burger King. The cost is $8 by Feb. 23 and $12 on the day of the race. Soccer

  • Referee clinic: An Entry Level Soccer Referee Clinic is being offered by the Cape Area Youth Soccer Association, the Jackson Area Optimist Soccer Association and the Southeast Missouri Referees Association. Sessions are 6 to 10 p.m. March 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 3 and 1 to 5 p.m. March 4. River Eagle Distributing, 2346 Rust Ave., will be the location. Softball

  • Managers meetings: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation softball leagues for 2007 will be forming soon. Managers meetings have been set for the following dates: March 15 for coed and men's leagues; March 15 for church league; and March 22 for girls and women's fast-pitch leagues.
