Cape Girardeau residents and visitors will have a rare opportunity Saturday and Sunday to visit five of the city's historical treasures, all of which will be open and eager to share a bit of the city's past.

Tickets for the special tour are $5 for all five locations, which is a savings from the $12.50 it would ordinarily cost to get in. And the fact that all five venues are open at the same time is a plus, since these historical sites are generally open only when volunteers are available for staffing.

The five sites are the Glenn House, the Red House Interpretive Center, Old St. Vincent's Church, The Cape River Heritage Museum and Old Lorimier Cemetery. Each place has a wealth of historical importance, and volunteers will be on hand to share information, answer questions and give tours.

As a part of the special weekend, one of the tour stops will feature another event that is part of the Southeast Missourian's centennial observance. There will be a new newspaper exhibit at the Cape River Heritage Museum. And the museum also will have a Mark Twain impersonator starting at noon Saturday.

The five locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. This is a great opportunity to "Rediscover Your Cape," which is the theme for the weekend's events.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and the Southeast Missourian or at any of the five attractions on Saturday and Sunday.

Don't miss this great weekend of history in Cape Girardeau.
