To the editor:
Howard Tooke came to our city at a time he was needed. He filled his role well against a great deal of opposition. He told me that the opposition to the Show Me Center was so fierce that he regretted it often. He had supported the project. Time has proven the wisdom of his position. But as many figures in public life, struggles brought out a courage that might have not emerged in more tranquil times. He also liked good food and companionship. That was the age of Scully and Trotter and sawmills and Bud Leming. I miss all of that.
