To the Editor:
As president of your Community Concert Association, I want to give a round of applause to all the people that attended our concerts this year at Academic Hall. Our March 11 concert featured The Dallas Brass, and for you who did not get to attend, they are premier musicians and a credit to the entertainment world!
One of the features that make this group outstanding is asking the band students to join them, for the last arrangement before the intermission. The students from Central High School Band, under the direction of Bruce Nall, had this opportunity. They not only performed very well as up and coming musicians, but were also courteous, well groomed, and very enthusiastic as musicians and as part of a happy audience.
This leads me to a statement and question I received from a person that attended the concert. The statement was that "the Community Concert sure is a well kept secret and how does one become a member?"
Now for the good news! We will have our fund drive April 19-24. The money we receive for memberships, goes into the fund that pays for the entertainment and the more members we have, the better the programs can be in the coming year.
We welcome patron participation. This is an opportunity for both the business community and individuals to become Patrons of The Arts. This segment of our drive is very important and we hope to expand our patron list.
Your association needs participation of our young families, not only financial support, but the knowledge you can bring to us. We feel it will be an opportunity for your children to learn appreciation for this kind of music.
You will be pleased to learn about our schedule for the 1993-94 season, and I am looking forward to announcing it and seeing you in Academic Hall for the programs.
The board members and those who work in the membership drive are all volunteers, and we are a not-for-profit organization. If you have any questions, please call me or any of the members.
Thank you for making it a great year!
