To the Editor:

Tuesday night's Vice Presidential debate confirmed for the entire country what many in middle America have known for four years: Dan Quayle is misguided, misinformed, and miserably mistaken. How desperate the Republicans must be to stoop to this new level of mudslinging.

Quayle had a chance to discuss the specifics of George Bush's economic platform but instead decided to once again avoid the issues and whine about peripheral image issues family values, the draft, and demonstrations and thus avoided all discussion of substantive matters like the Family and Medical Leave Act, middle-class tax breaks, and the right of a woman to control her body.

His smoke and mirrors act fooled no one except the clueless Republicans who continue to lend their allegiance to a candidate who can only lead this country down the road to destruction and devastation. When will they wake up and realize that the time for change has come?

I find it ironic that Quayle questioned the integrity of Bill Clinton's college years but failed to acknowledge the illegal activities of George Bush during the Iran-Contra affair.

Dan Quayle and the care-nothing Republicans like George Bush have disregarded the homeless, elderly, sick and unemployed long enough. The country needs to be able to hope again. Bill Clinton and Al Gore are the team to give America the hope it so desperately wants.
