Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Theatre and Dance is in the midst of its spring musical, George Abbott's "The Pajama Game."
The Tony Award-winning production is a romantic comedy that features entertaining acting, choreography and music, according to actor Jacob Buckenmyer, that some may find familiar.
Two key figures in the performance, which centers on a conflict between workers and management and the battle of the sexes, are Sid Sorokin, played by Buckenmyer, and Babe Williams, played by Samantha Gross.
"Boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl," director Dr. Kenneth Stilson said in a story that originally appeared in The Arrow. "It is the plot of so many musical theater romantic comedies. It is the music and the telling of the story through the visuals that make it unique."
Four performances of the musical remain. Shows for tonight and Saturday begin at 7:30 p.m. The Friday performance begins at 8 p.m. And a 2 p.m. show will close out the musical on Sunday. Tickets are $3 for those with a valid Southeast ID. Others may purchase tickets which vary in price. Tickets are available at the River Campus box office or online at rivercampusevents.com.
