The love of helping others

To the editor:

I want to apologize to Laura Matlock of Gordonville for offending her. I do not know how she thought I was disrespecting volunteers, because I never stated that volunteers are not heroes. As a former volunteer, I realize how important they are. I was responding to a Speak Out comment about using volunteers in Cape Girardeau. What we all have in common, volunteers and paid alike, is the love of helping people. That is why all firefighters, first responders and emergency medical technicians are important to the people we serve.
