I saw in the paper that someone thinks there should be more collection containers around town for the benefit of area food pantries. What a kind gesture. But there are collection cans. Proceeds go to SEMO Food Bank and benefit many area pantries.
Many churches and businesses have regular collections. There is a life-saving Boy Scout food drive in November. Organizations, groups, families and individuals give regularly. Without these donations, pantries such as ours in Scott City would fold.
My daughter, her son and his son plus two other grandsons and two more daughters and I all volunteer. There are many more dedicated volunteers as well. Last month we had a total of 85 volunteer hours, including many generous, helpful, local folks.
Our canned-goods shelves are pretty bare, but we have faith in our generous community.
Our pantry is sponsored by the Scott City Ministerial Alliance, and Mayor Tim Porch provides the building and utilities. We are grateful.
DOROTHY DEES, Pantry Director, Scott City.
