WE ARE TWO eighth-grade students from St. Mary's Cathedral School. We would like to thank all the wonderful teachers who have made this school year one to remember. We love you. Thanks a lot.
WE IN THE SUNSET addition of Cape Girardeau are fed up with the church chimes. Every hour they disturb their neighbors. They play out-of-tune hymns several times a day. We have enough noise already from school buses, car stereos, helicopters and 18-wheelers going to the hospital. That's enough noise. We can at least do without the church noise every hour. If you members think chimes are so great, play them at your house on the hour every day. By the way, does the city have a noise level law? Or, perhaps we could start a petition or try for commercial zoning in this Sunset addition. Thank you.
THIS IS IN response to the letter about collecting of newspapers. Papers are collected at Schapher's IGA every month by our Boy Scouts. If you wish to get rid of your newspapers you can bring them to Jackson. Thank you.
RECENTLY I RETIRED after 30-odd years at a job that gave me not much free time. Now that I have retired, I would really like to be of help to others in volunteering some time, but I'm not in the best of health and could not do anything streneous or that requires long hours. I guess my question is, who really needs help? Everybody says they do but we all know that some organizations need it more than others. If you know who would be glad to have this help, please let us know. I enjoy people of all ages. I'm sure there are other people who would volunteer if they thought they could use their time even though they are not able to run and jump like a child any more. If you want us, let us know. Thank you.
I WOULD LIKE to comment and offer a word of advice to women here in Cape County. It appears we have an awfully lot of loose men with low morals who are out to use you and abuse you. Beware.
I WOULD LIKE FOR all the taxpayers out there to just say no to the $385 million school tax. It's a very regressive tax. Thank you.
I'D LIKE TO CALL on behalf of the person who's white and happily married, heterosexual, middle-aged, middle-income, a working mother of two. If she thinks it's okay for homosexuality and the like, and they should do as they please, that means that Armageddon is coming. Armageddon means that the churches and the people would except sodomy and homosexuality and perverted forms as lifestyle and that we should all forgive them. In the Bible it says to look for that as the sign of the second coming. Boy, am I looking forward to it because it's all coming true. Everyone is excepting just what the Bible says in Revelations. Thank you.
TO BILL HEITLAND, sports editor: Your Sunday article on the Coaching carousel was right on the money. As I sit here and read Speak Out, I just want to laugh at the people calling in against you. I am now an almost newly graduate of Cape Central and the athletic program. I have been in the basketball program for four years, so I have the experience and knowledge of the coaching staff. If I had it to do over again, I would be graduating from Jackson High School this year and would be proud to have someone like Ron Cook as a coach. For the people who don't know firsthand about the Cape Central coaching staff, meaning they haven't gone through it in the last couple of years, I guess the truth hurts, doesn't it? Thank you.
ANYONE EVER walked through Shawnee Park on Sunday evening after the soccer games? Seems to me as though the coaches and parents would encourage the young players and themselves to pick up their litter or not throw it down to begin with. Where are all our environmentalists? Incidentally,, there was a trash can right in the middle of all the litter.
I'M CALLING IN regards to the article I read in tonight's paper about Cape Girardeau getting a contractors licensing law. I just want to say that I think that's a great idea. Maybe a measure such as this could protect innocent people from crooked contractors. Thank you.
I'M LIKE A lot of other people: I'd sure like to get that channel 11 into Cape Girardeau too so I could watch the Cardinals games. I think the trouble is, though, that we're calling Speak Out instead of calling the cable company.
I THINK THAT some of the school board members of Scott City should be the ones to wake up. I think that when they are elected they have the responsibility to look out for best interests of all the children and not vote to fire the coach. It's kind of hard to show respect and support when they are wrong. I do respect and support the three members who voted responsibly. Thank you.
FEDERAL PROGRAMS ARE being cut back, unemployment continues to rise. Israel will not go along with the peace plan. Still they will ask for and get $10 billion from the United States to pay for Russian Jews to immigrate from Russia. Why should we pay this horrendous amount? Nobody paid any country to get our ancestors out of their homeland. Ask your congressmen if the Jewish folk means that much. Thank you.
I LIVE IN Scott City and my neighbor has a lawnmower that has no muffler or anything on it. He's continuously running it and disturbing the peace. I wish, sir, you would get a new muffler for your mower or a new mower so we could get some rest. Thank you.
