THERE ARE a few senior citizens like myself at doctor's offices, in restaurants or at the hospital for treatment. What galls me is I hear them blast President Clinton and the Democratic administration for too much spending and too much government and things of that order. And the first thing I notice is they pull out that Medicare card, which was brought about by John F. Kennedy and a Democratic administration. A lot of them are on Social Security, which was brought about by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a Democrat. But then they scorn and run down the party that has made it possible for them to age with dignity instead of going to the poor farms and going to doctors' offices and being charged exorbitant doctor's bills and perhaps losing everything they've got. Whether you're Republican or Democrat, you have to admit that Social Security is a wonderful thing. A lot of older people are dying with dignity and are cared for in their older days, and so many other things the Democratic administrations have brought about. So I challenge you to name one thing the Republicans in Congress want to do but cut and turn the clock back. I could in no way vote that way.
I'M CALLING in regard to the speed limit change. I think in some ways it is good, but in some ways it is bad. It'll mean more people dead, and it'll also mean that you'll get there faster. But if it's going to kill more people I don't think it should happen.
I'M CALLING in regard to the Tyson-Mathis fight last night. I think Mr. Mathis shouldn't have fought at all. Mike Tyson is too powerful for him, and he's way too tall, and he has those big muscles. I think Mathis shouldn't have even have gone to the fight if he didn't stand a chance. But I do congratulate him for making two and a half rounds.
I'D LIKE to comment on the newspaper and its contents. I'm a seventh grader at St. Paul Lutheran School. We get the newspaper every single day. Our principal gives it to us. I greatly appreciate that we get it, because it has so much knowledge that I need to face the world, and it's really given me an insight on what the government is doing. My opinion on the government: it sucks.
WHEN MY two girls were little, my husband used to wait until they were asleep at on Christmas eve. He would go outside and get gravel and throw it on top of the roof. When they heard it on the roof they knew Santa Claus was there. Oh, he had landed! They would be so excited. Then he would take red tissue paper and put it around a flashlight and go out by their window and blink it off and on. They knew it was Rudolph. Let people have fun with their children on Christmas Eve.
I'VE BEEN in the National Guard for 21 years. I've been overseas nine times, and I'm not afraid to go overseas. It doesn't bother me a bit. I've also taught school at Cape Central as a substitute teacher. I had one knock-down, drag-out fight and I kicked out two kids for disrespect to their teacher. I can see why teachers are quitting.
