I SAW a very sad thing today. I saw a man who probably was the best qualified, if not the person for the presidency, decide not to run. I hate even to see him be a Republican, because I'm not one myself, the main reason for it being Robert Dole. Digging up dirt -- that's the Republican agenda. That's always been their agenda. They would try to dig up dirt on Jesus Christ so they could get one of those money-grabbing, multimillion-dollar rich devils to grab some more money, like Ronald Reagan did and like George Bush did. Powell was a more honest and desirable man for the job, but what did they do? They already started jumping into the garbage can.
TO THE person who returned my ATM card to Boatmen's Bank on Wednesday, thanks.
RECENTLY, a comment was made about the Missourian being one-sided in articles concerning politics. I looked in the paper to see how the election for governor came out in Kentucky. Down in the right hand corner, was a little picture telling to turn to page 4 for the report. Had the Republicans won, it would have been all across the top of the front page with one-inch letters. All the editorials, cartoons and what have you are all slamming the Democrats. It is the most one-sided reporting I have ever seen.
I ATTENDED a church-sponsored Bingo recently where the workers were drinking alcoholic beverages. I found this totally disgusting. I wish you would print this please to discourage it.
IF YOU like the parking lot at the Show Me Center, you would love the plans the university propose for the Henderson-New Madrid intersection. They disconnected two parts of Henderson by narrowing the north side to 24 feet and moving it west. The south part of Henderson would be a maze of curbs and islands with traffic lanes funneling into the campus on the east. All it lacks to bring it up to Show Me Center idiocy are the sewer tiles to block access and the men collecting $2 fees. Now they're going to revise the plan. Why should we let the university contractors design our streets? I say the engineers have that job and already have this project planned.
I AM calling in response to "No credentials" in Speak Out. I proudly served five years under President Reagan's administration. I'm positive everyone in the military presently is proudly serving under Slick Willie. It doesn't matter if he was a dope-smoking draft dodger. Oops, I forgot. He didn't inhale. He is now the commander-in-chief. What he says now goes. Everyone do your civic duty and vote out of office that non-inhaling draft dodger in 1996.
IN MY water bill, I got a slip telling not to burn brush, tree limbs and garden plants. With all this wind today, people in my neighborhood trimmed their trees, bushes, garden vegetables and leaves and burned this in this high wind. I thought this was law, you could not do this. All this fire flying around, it is really dangerous. Who do you sue if your house catches on fire, the city or the people? They better make some kind of a law before someone gets hurt.
I WOULD like to comment on the Tri-Con closing. I have worked there 12 years. It used to be piecework where everybody earned what they produced. If you wanted to work hard, you got paid for it. Then they went to team sewing. Everybody earned the same. Some people worked, and some didn't, and you had to make up the difference for the ones that didn't work. We had not had a raise for four years until we got a union, which consisted of 45 cents an hour. We had meetings with the big shots, trying to tell them that we didn't need a union, and they said they would shut the doors if we voted one in, and that's just what they're doing. I say let Mexico work for a $1 less. They deserve each other.
THIS IS for Notre Dame High School soccer. A big hand goes out to the Notre Dame soccer program and coaches for their 22-2 season and the many records that they accomplished. A big thank you goes out to the senior class for their leadership and their hard work. Especially for number 53 for playing in and starting every single varsity games for all four years of your high school career. I enjoyed watching you play for the last 13 seasons.
