I LIKE Mike Royko. I have been reading him for many years. I do not believe that he is a dirty old man. As a matter of fact I find him quite humorous. I do not always agree with what he has to say, but then again there is the First Amendment and freedom of speech. I think it would be a shame for the Southeast Missourian to cut him off. And to the caller who called in: I am a woman, and I do enjoy him.
YOU KNOW I am continually amazed at people. Especially people who have a choice and are not satisfied with their option for choice. I'm referring to the party who called in with a dislike for Mike Royko. This person has a choice of not reading Mike Royko. So why not just disregard his article and read something that this person likes? I don't like rhubarb pie, so I have a choice not to eat rhubarb pie. So I say long live Mike Royko. He's entertaining, and I think he is a credit to the Southeast Missourian. Thank you, Southeast Missourian. We love your paper.
THANKS, SAM Blackwell for your excellent July 20 column entitled "In defense of the right to be human."
PLEASE KEEP carrying Mike Royko's column in your opinion section. He is the only one that I absolutely must read every time. He tells it like it is without lots of fancy dialect, and he's much more in touch with how people really look at life than most of the other writers. If some folks are offended by his writing, don't read it.
