I JUST wanted to say that I'm very disappointed in Southeast University in bringing Anita Hill to Cape Girardeau. Miss Hill has no qualifications to speak on race and gender issues. The only thing that she has done for society is make false accusations against a Supreme Court Justice. I don't think she is a very good example for blacks in Cape Girardeau or the nation as a whole.
DOES ANYONE else out there feel as frustrated as we are that ice skaters, much like dancers, do have feet, yet in recent shows on television we don't get to see their feet because the camera people are far more interested in getting way up their nostrils. We'd like to see their feet, otherwise there's no point in watching ice skating.
I WOULD like to congratulate Charlotte Wade and say it's about time she received some recognition for her hard work. She's a very special lady.
WE'VE JUST watched our fearless city council hide behind the U.S. Constitution as a ingenious rationale for approving the liquor license for the nude bar. Way to go, guys. We women salute your moral courage and hope you sleep well.
WHEN WILL the men on our city council take their stand? When it's time for re-election? Then, gentlemen, it's too late. You had the perfect opportunity to do what was right for the city, and you let us down. Voting the liquor license for Regina's House of Dolls is only going to promote abuse of alcohol, drugs, sex and crime. This being a university city, those young folks will only find themselves deceived by this kind of engagement. Stop playing games, city councilmen. You've been called to do a job.
I WISH the garbage men on Normal Avenue would do their job and pick up the trash.
I WOULD like to know why that the city doesn't take better care of the northeast section of Cape Girardeau. We have a city ordinance against dangerous buildings and dilapidated houses. Why is it not enforced? Because it's in the northeast part of Cape Girardeau. If these dangerous buildings and houses were sitting somewhere else in the city of Cape, they would be hiring contractors to demolish them. Our homes may not be $100,000 homes up here, but some people do care about their property and take care of it only to let the city council let these dilapidated buildings and dangerous buildings stand beside their property and decrease their value. We pay taxes in the northeast section of Cape the same anybody does in the southeast, southwest or north section. It's time the city council gets their priorities in order and let's clean up this part of town. After all, this is the oldest part of Cape Girardeau. Don't abandon us. We pay taxes too.
I HAVE a comment to make about the paper carrier on Second Street East in Scott City, Illmo's part. The paper service has been excellent. The paper's on our front porch each morning right beside the door. I don't have to go down to the end of my driveway to pick it up. Thanks for the service. Keep it up.
YOU DO not have to be a Christian to be against nude dancing and what goes with it. You can be an atheist and still believe it's wrong.
I AGREE with the person who called in questioning the justice of the child who died after being kicked. Here's what the plea bargain says: Kill a child, get your hand slapped. This has been happening for years now and will continue to happen until people speak out for justice.
IN REGARDS to the lady on Medicaid who can't find a doctor: That there is why we need national health-care reform. We have a Congress that boasts about defeating the president's health-care bill, like the Grahams and the Doles.
LET'S THANK the good Lord for Melvin Gateley, the only one who voted against the strip-tease bar. All the voters who are against this ought to vote everyone else plumb out of office. I know there's a lot more out there that didn't get a chance to sign these petitions. I for one signed a petition against it. Like I said, thank the Lord that we have one in there who was thinking moral support. Everyone else at city hall is immoral.
BRAVO TO Melvin Gateley for casting the lone dissenting vote against the strip tease bar. He has my respect. The others on the council do not. I have lived in Cape for nearly 16 years, and I am outraged that our city is being turned into a Sodom and Gomorrah, slowly but surely. We must contact our state representatives and get them to make nudity illegal in our state. I know you liberal people out there don't like to hear this, but the bottom line is what does God, our creator teach about lust and gambling? You will have to live with your decisions on judgment day.
I JUST wanted to call in to say that I think it's a shame what is becoming of our fine city of Cape Girardeau. This has been such a nice clean community and the reputation that we're beginning to get isn't the wholesome goodness that we're all looking for. I think it's a shame that the city council didn't have enough backbone to stand up for what they know that the majority of the people want in this community and that maybe in the next election, we may have make some changes like we did on the national level. I just thinks it a shame. It makes me think what's next? Where's the drawing line and what is going to be permitted next in our community?
I WOULD like to see the city repaint the four lanes on William Street from Sprigg all the way out to WalMart. Either that or put some reflectors in the lanes, because when it rains, especially, it's hard to distinguish one lane from the other. I've seen some instances where accidents almost happen because people weren't in their lanes, and it's especially hard for older people or people who have trouble seeing at night. This really needs to be done.
I SEE in the paper where Mayor Larry Forhan of Scott City directed a city attorney to draft a new ordinance prohibiting nude dancing or stripping in bars. Why can't that happen in Cape Girardeau? People don't want the Regina's House of Dolls here. It does violate our community standards. If it can be done in Scott City, why not here?
I WOULD like to thank the restaurants and other establishments that provide smoking and non-smoking sections for us patrons. I am a smoker and I feel that non-smokers have the right to non-smoking section just like us smokers have the right to be provided a smoking section. Isn't it great that we live in a country that says we have equal rights?
MANY THANKS to the lady who called a tow truck for me when I was stalled at Broadway and Kingsway. They came right over and soon fixed my problem and I was on my way to the grocery store. Thank you very much.
