I WILL pay for a big picture and sign on highway saying Rush Limbaugh was born and reared here. Make it big and plain and I will pay. He is our best asset.

IN RESPONSE to a couple misinformed sources that called in. In pertaining to the Republicans that vote Democrat, I say great, they saw the light. Number one, he says Bill Clinton talked about cutting Medicare. Bill Clinton is the president. He is not congress. If the president wants to go too far, we'd have a good Democratic congress to override him, which I doubt he wants to do, to cut Medicare. We didn't say Democratic presidents are perfect. Maybe near perfect. Number two, about the one that says he's tired of his taxes going to lazy bums. Some people, maybe on welfare, deserve their checks. Not all of them are bums. If he's talking about the Social Security checks coming in, those people worked and earned that Social Security. I am not on welfare. I am a retired state employee drawing a pension that I have earned, so therefore my concern is for the others that need help.

IN A letter to the editor in your paper, the writer cites the size of the Jackson graduating class as a reason to build another interstate interchange to Jackson. I guess the nine bus loads of school children coming into Jackson from north Cape County don't count in her book. The safety of these children would be enhanced by reducing the amount of street traffic on the Fruitland corridor of Highway 61. If she is right that improvements should occur in the communities with the most people, then why bother even considering the situation in rural areas. Just make all road improvements in population centers and be done with it.

I JUST read in the Southeast Missourian that Jackson has stopped people from shooting fireworks in the park. They can shoot them only on their own property. I wish we could get laws like that passed in Cape Girardeau. I just finished getting a window repaired that was broken last Fourth of July. My neighbors across the street stand in their yard and shoot the bottle rockets across the street into my yard and I have to get out and pick them up. Last year I picked up 28 on my front porch that they had shot toward my windows. What has happened that people don't teach their children respect for other people's property? I called the police last year but I might as well saved my breath. They didn't even come out here.

Reply: According to the Cape Girardeau Police, a person can be charged with a fireworks violation for shooting fireworks at another individual's property. Police say, however, the victim must know names of persons who shot off the fireworks, and have witnessed the event in order to file charges. The police receive many fireworks-related calls this time of year. Typically, police will try to patrol an area in which a complaint has been received.

I URGE you minimum wage people and you people on welfare and you people that have social security only, write your congressman Bill Emerson and your senators and urge them to introduce a national health care bill. It's needed desperately and urge them to vote to raise the minimum wage. Be sure to register and vote in the next election. The last election you did not vote and your voice is not being heard and you are being ignored. So please I urge you to do those three things.

I THINK all those executed in prisons should be made to donate every organ in their body. Thank you.

THERE IS a judge and lawyer who will not be led around by the nose by this O.J. thing and they are right here from the Show Me state. Too bad O.J. couldn't have been brought to Missouri. He would have truly gotten a fair trial here I'm afraid.

RUSH LIMBAUGH should have the place of honor on the floodwall mural. Had he not fought so valiantly to return power to the states and people, the taxpayers, our congress and president would have gone on spending thus buying security for themselves without thinking or caring about our younger generation.

REGARDING the letter to the editor about the Jackson and Oak Ridge exits from I-55. I feel that maybe she wasn't aware that the state is planning to put traffic lights there at I-55 and 61. That is going to ease a lot of the traffic and hopefully cut down on a lot of the accidents in that area. I don't think one thing has to do with another in terms of the interstate. Oak Ridge definitely needs that interstate change and should get it. Thank you.
