I THINK we've got the best government in the world. I love our federal government. Men have died to defend our federal government. Federal government is a leader in our nation. The city government needs to be overruled by the county government. The county government sometime needs to be overrode by the state government. When the state government gets out of hand, we have Uncle Sam, the U.S. government, to kind of put it into place. That's the way our system works. If the federal government has taken on more power, it was because of our states abused their rights pertaining to the civil rights and equal employment and things of that order and the federal government was forced to come in. I would say thank God we had it at various times and various decisions that we have the Supreme Court. Thank God for the federal government.
I JUST read about a wrongful-death fetus in a auto-truck accident. My question is why is this a wrongful death and yet a baby fetus taken at a abortion clinic is not?
I HAVE never listened to talk radio, but after hearing Bill Clinton come out against them that they were the cause of all the trouble in the country, I decided to start listening. The last few days I've been listening. Thank goodness they're on the air, because they're telling you the truth, the way it is, not the way the liberal news media is telling us. So, Bill Clinton, you just did talk radio a good favor.
I WAS just wondering what the status is now on our riverboat that's supposed to come to Cape. The last I heard the Boyd Group was hot to trot soon as the vote was passed. Now that the vote was passed I haven't heard anything about the Boyd Group going to do anything. Caruthersville has got a boat already, and here we have done anything. If the Boyd Group is not going to do anything, switch to another group.
REPLY: The Southeast Missourian regularly reports on the status of the riverboat plans both in Cape Girardeau and Scott City. Both proposals are still going through the process of obtaining permits and agreements prior to submitting applications to the Missouri Gaming Commission.
ISN'T IT odd that President Clinton singled out conservative talk radio for a possible cause for the Oklahoma bombing while ignoring the violence that his Hollywood pals continually shove down our throats at the movies and on TV. The president and the major media have used this horrible tragedy as a political opportunity to silence their critics. I find this sickening and disgusting. Clinton and his major media friends have finally hit the moral bottom. They can go no lower.
I DON'T understand the many anti-government militants in this country. If they don't like the way our country is being run, rather than destroy it and a lot of innocent people, they should move to a place like North Korea, Iran or Iraq and see how long they would last over there.
I'M A grandfather, and I shed a lot of tears for the children killed in Oklahoma City and I'm tired of these sickos calling Speak Out and comparing Waco with the Oklahoma City bombing. Waco was a group of fanatics gathering arms who let their own children die just because of their warped fanatic views.
THANKS for cleaning the gutters at the Post Office. Please continue.
REGARDING the talent show at CJHS: The people that were in it were really good, but this morning half of them were cut out because of the teachers and the parents that called last night and their kids weren't even in the talent show. So I'd like for the teachers to do something about it. I don't think it's fair for them to tell us at the very last minute that we were kicked out. They should have told us at auditions, not the very last minute.
OUR FOREFATHERS had guns when they formed the Declaration of Independence, but they only fired a singled shot at a time, and it took time to reload. They had no knowledge of the assault repeating guns of today. They would not have worded the amendment for citizens to have the types of guns in their possession for safety protection. The Olympics has no shooting events for automatic repeating rifles for there is no skill for firing these guns. People who claim these guns for sports are 100 percent wrong.
I'M A CJHS student, and there was a concert for the choir and a talent show. The choir was great, but they cut out a lot of the acts. Now they're wondering why we are protesting at school. If we can't have religion at the school, then they shouldn't be doing all these songs that they were doing.
I COMMEND those parents and audience who were appalled at the indecent and tasteless so-called talent show performances at the Cape Junior High School. Where in the world was the supervision from the administration and the junior high faculty? We look to these people to provide guidance for the youth and even censorship at times. That's not a dirty word. It has it's place even in the 1990s. And teachers, don't be intimidated by the occasional remiss parent who feels that a child's desires are above the values of our society. When doing you duty and you're reprimanded by such a parent, it becomes obvious to everyone why the child doesn't know any boundaries to acceptable behavior and performances.
