Paying for deadbeats

I'M CALLING in response to the comment in Speak Out where a person is implied that his boss is docking his pay when somebody drives away from a gas station where he works without paying for the gas. I'm pretty sure that's against the law, and if you own a gas station you should realize that you can't charge your people who work there for crimes that are committed by other persons against your business. You need to find a way to give your pumps some more visibility or another way to prevent the problem, but I don't believe it's legal for you to be charging your employees to reimburse you for crimes that other people have committed against your business.

Another act of kindness

ACTS OF Kindness do continue in Cape Girardeau. A big thank you to Gene Rhodes for mowing the grass at the seminary grounds.

Not welcome at home

I WOULD just like to say my husband and I spent two weeks down at beautiful Arkansas around the Hot Springs area. We spent about five days in Hot Springs, boyhood home of Bill Clinton. And we found out one thing. All the way from Harrison, Ark., in the north down to Crater of Diamonds in the south and anywhere in between, the people of Arkansas hate Bill Clinton. They don't want him back. They're afraid he's going to lose the election and wind up back in Arkansas. They said he was the worst governor they've ever had. They've got more taxes now because of him. And they're scared to death he's going to wind up back in Arkansas. And these are people in Hot Springs who knew him. A lot of the people said we've known him since he was a little boy and he's the biggest liar you've ever seen. He lies like a hound dog under the front porch. American people, wake up. If Arkansas doesn't want him, doesn't that tell you something?

Let growth cover the costs

THE JACKSON School District wants to use growth as a reason to increase taxes. Why is this necessary? As new people move in, they will be required to pay the current tax rate. This should be sufficient to provide for the district. Vote no on the issue.

Bad manners on TV

I WAS just wondering if other people are as tired as I am with the ads that are showing on TV. Things like a young girl being disrespectful to an older gentleman about a car phone and then later there's three young kids jumping on furniture in a fast food ad and this goes on and on and on. Come on, people, let's start training our kids. This kind of behavior is really unacceptable and teaches them bad, bad manners.
