Vandalism in Alma Schrader area

THIS IS concerning the Alma Schrader Elementary School area. There seems to be a group of teen-agers who think it's funny to go through the neighborhood at night and tear up people's property. They have been tearing down mailboxes. They went through and tore up everyone's flower bed on Westwood. Hundreds of dollars worth of flowers were thrown in the street. They threw lights in people's yards, and this has been going on about two weeks. Now they keep coming back to this area and doing the same thing. I think the parents should be alerted. I think the people in the Alma Schrader area should be alert. I think you should be watching for teen-agers driving around in a car. If they're doing something suspicious or something wrong, you should take their number down and report it to the police. This has to stop. A lot of these people who they're vandalizing are retired people who are frightened, who do not appreciate these people coming in to their yard at night and tearing up their things. I feel that the people in this area should be on the lookout and help the police to find out who's doing that.

Delta works on community pride

I'M A resident of Delta, and I'd just like to take a moment to thank the people that have been doing all the cleanup and the mowing of the weeds around town and just basically making our little town look a lot better. I saw some men working on what appeared to be a flower box in front of the very beautiful community building they have there in town. So it's just basically Delta showing a little hometown pride, and I'd just like to thank those people and tell them to keep up the good work.

Tall grass is an eyesore

WE HAVE some tall grass behind the Wal-Mart store in Jackson. This is an eyesore to the community, and I just wanted to call and report it.

Concerned about father's rights

I'M CALLING in response to the person who wants to take a father's rights away for not paying child support. Obviously this person does not have the child's best interest at heart. I don't see how bastardizing the child would do anything. If we took father's right away instead of trying to enforce the child support, we would put ourselves back 10 to 20 years, and there would be higher and higher welfare roles.

New soccer team is divisive

THIS IS in regards to the new Classic soccer team club that's coming to Cape. As a parent of one of the kids that plays for a competitive team, my daughter, what this new club is doing is dividing friends, it is dividing parents up. Parents should stand beside each other and support their coach who has put a couple years into their kids. Some of the older teams have put four and five years into these teams. If these parents would stand together, they could be one united team instead of a Classic United which is dividing the CAYSA Select.

Uniforms make everyone the same

I THINK that is so great that the schools at St. Vincent's and St. Mary's are going to have uniforms for the children. I tell you what. I was in St. Mary's School in 1926, and we wore white middies and black skirts, and I thought it was great in the seventh and eighth grade. We looked neat, we were clean and you couldn't tell me from the rich girls. I was a very poor girl. And I think it's great that you cannot tell a rich girl from a poor girl when you wear uniforms.

Classes too large despite bond issue

I SEE that Jackson is considering a new bond issue. Well, I voted for the school bond issue, then I learned that some of the schools including West Lane may have 30 students in a class. This is unacceptable. I feel burned. No more tax increases.

Need restrooms at Jackson park

I AGREE with the caller about the bathrooms at the bandshell at Jackson. There would be a lot of older people go. I know I would.

If you want insurance, get it

THIS IS in response to the person who called about how we ought to have a national health care. If people want health care, they ought to get out and get it. I didn't take their family to raise me.

Postal Service should cut expenses

IN REGARDS to the recent announcement the Postal Service is seeking another raise in first-class postage, perhaps it's time that the Postal Service does what private industry does. Perhaps it's time every employee of the Postal Service took a 2 percent across-the-board cut in wages and benefits. This would keep us from having a postage increase for years to come. Private industry has to watch its money. It's about time the Postal Service does the same thing. Take it out of the pockets that are overpaid and leave the postage as it is. It's time the Postal Service takes responsibility for it's actions. Freeze these wages, give them a cut, freeze their benefits, keep the rates the same.
