How about those Swamp Hounds?

THERE IS a hot debate around our town and in Speak Out about what to do about a mascot for SEMO. My suggestion is to start with something entirely new. Since a lot of people in Cape are from small towns or out in the country, I would pick the new name for SEMO as the Swamp Hounds.

Justice depends on affording a lawyer

JUSTICE? STATE issues a license to sell alcoholic drinks. State pays an officer to sit near the establishment and follow the vehicle after it leaves the establishment. The driver of the vehicle is pulled over. Driver blows 1.1. Driver is taken before the judge. Driver gets a lawyer to talk to the judge. They make a deal. Driver No. 2 leaves same establishment, same scenario and blows 1.1. Driver No. 2 does not have the money, and without a lawyer he is more guilty, even though both drivers blew 1.1 and were guilty of the same violation. Driver No. 2 gets the full extent and punishment available. Justice? You bet. How about racket?.

Leave the Indians as the mascot

AS TO the controversy over the Indians mascot, I say let the Indians be dressed and standing on the hill overlooking the games like they used to be. This controversy is nothing but a yawn to most people. This idiotic pursuit of diversity is stirred up by people who sit on the committee.

Cheers, jeers for sports articles

I WOULD like to say thanks to Marty Mishow for his article about the Chaffee Red Devils. I'm a player on the team, and it made me feel pretty good knowing that someone finally gave us some credit. I would also like to tell Rus Baer to stick his foot his mouth. In an article, he said Chaffee had no chance against St. Vincent's. His article motivated us to prove him wrong.

Remember Teddy Roosevelt's words

I THINK the recent comment in Speak Out telling us how good Slick Willie is was a little bit off base. A lot better answer came from Teddy Roosevelt and it will never be forgotten. Teddy Roosevelt said, very plainly, that the office of the president should always be respected, but no one is expected to respect any dirty rotten scoundrel that happens to hold that office.

Find a politician who never lied

I WANT to say that I agree with Ron Farrow 100 percent. I think he was too kind to Mr. Kinder. I think Mr. Clinton probably lied when he said he didn't get a loan from Guarantee Trust Co. in Little Rock, but what the heck difference does this make? Reagan lied to us about the Iran/Contra thing. Bush said he wasn't in the loot. Reagan went to Japan after he was out of office and collected $2 million for two speeches. Who believes this? He may have done a good job. I didn't vote him. I voted for Mr. Bush, but this is not enough to hang the man for. Show me a politician who never lied.
