ARE YOU as tired of telephone solicitations as I am? They're an intrusion into my privacy. If you are, call your congressman. Call the telephone company. Swamp them with calls demanding a law be passed outlawing telephone solicitation. We must do it ourselves if it's going to get done. Call now...

Dust control needed in county

TO THE county commissioners: Since we a first-class county, what about doing something for dust control in the county, not just paving a few chosen roads? We all pay taxes.

A plan for highway through Jackson

GET CITY, school district and MoDOT together in Jackson. The city of Jackson should work with MoDOT's proposal to widen Highway 72 west to five lanes from where it stops at high school at least past junior high at West Lane. Acquire all property between school and Hubble Creek and fill in and level for proposed civic center with parking for both high school and civic center. That would alleviate the traffic problem on that narrow stretch of highway and be a plus for parking at either high school athletic events or civic center events.

Parents need to teach at home too

I'D JUST like to say something to the lady who wrote in the paper about the school district cutting the funds and not replacing teachers and depending on the schools to determine how good her child does on the ACT test. I think a lot of responsibility goes with the parents and what they teach their children at home.

Noise can be dangerous to your health

I SAW a guy on TV the other night. He was appearing before the Cape Girardeau City Council and was griping about excess noise in his neighborhood. I felt sorry for him and hope they do something about it. It reminded me of the ancient Roman satirist Juvenal. He once speculated that because of the noise, most people who lived in the city of Rome died from insomnia.
