I WISH something could be done about the highway department or road district dumping old concrete in creek gullies along the highways. These are an eyesore and should be considered dumping. These can be seen on Route W, Cape LaCroix Road and Highway 177. If these departments want to dump this material, why not break them up in rock-size pieces? It would not be so offensive.
I WILL be happy to see "Seinfield" finally go off the air. I've never watched an entire "Seinfield" show because these people are self-centered, self-satisfied ego trippers. They're not people I like. But I guess the real reason I don't watch "Seinfield" is I don't think it's funny.
THE LETTER to the editor by Pastor Zellinger sure is a hard one to understand. He quotes in this letter normal homosexual people. For the pastor's information, there is no such thing as a normal homosexual person. He should study the Bible a little bit more closely and maybe study the differences between male and female and heterosexuality, which is a standard, normal relationship.
THE CAPE Parks and Recreation Department needs to seriously consider either purchasing the Elks pool from the new owner or opening a pool designated for family passes only where at least one parent has to be present with their children. Capaha and Central pools are overrun with wild, unattended children whose parents use the pools for free babysitting and leave other swimmers with their rude and unruly kids to spoil their relaxation and ability to swim. Why it wasn't considered in the Osage Center plans was a serious mistake. A public forum needs to be scheduled, and a massive turnout would result. Please, city of Cape, take heed to the residents who pay the taxes here. Another swimming pool is dire in need.
I'VE BEEN reading all the controversy, pro and con, of people going through things that have been put out for pickup on spring cleanup. I think that the big problem is that some of these people take the ties off the trash bags, go through and litter trash and then don't put the trash back in the bags and tie them back up. In one case I know, they threw something heavy out in the middle of the street, and the woman had to call her nephew to come put it up because it was too heavy. I think if people who want to pick up discarded items will leave things as they found them, neat and tidy, all stacked up and the bags tied, there won't be any problem.
TO THE person who called in with the straight facts on Somalia, I suppose sending the troops in on a humanitarian mission meant there was no chance of violence erupting. Get real. The whole plan was terribly flawed from the beginning. No troops should have been sent in the first place, if they weren't properly prepared. As for the Republicans passing the welfare reform bill three times, this is a false statement. They passed three separate bills. The first two were disastrous so they were vetoed. The third was more acceptable so it was signed. Do you think a president is required by law to sign a bill the third time? Or maybe they stuck a gun to Clinton's head and made him sign. If anything, Clinton forced the Republicans to pass an acceptable bill by sending them back to the drawing board to get it right.
IF SOMEONE who breaks the law is not a criminal, then would Mr. Rosener please explain his definition of just who is a criminal? Also, for an officer of the court to suggest that citizens need obey only those laws with which they agree is a bit scary.
