COMMUNIST RUSSIA is obsolete. Communist China, Cuba, and North Korea are still in business. The United States wants to engage Communist China, but not Cuba or North Korea. Kind of confusing, isn't it? The Clinton foreign policy is an enigma. We need leadership, not guesswork and shilly-shallying vacillation,or ego bombings.
WE CANNOT be Americans if we think of ourselves in groups. A person who thinks of himself as belonging to a particular group in America has not yet become an American. And a person who goes among you to trade upon your cultural origin, race or language is not worthy to live under the stars and stripes. The foregoing words were the words of a former president, Woodrow Wilson. In our present-day society, there are group identifications such as Afro-American and Mexican-American wherein so many demand special rights because of their color, ethnic origin, language or sexual orientation. We should take to heart and mind the ex-president's words before our country is destroyed.
TO THE people who say that people were so much better in the past: I'd like to relate something to you that I read about that happened in New England in 1659. A Puritan man was prosecuted and fined for allowing poor Quakers to come into his house for three-quarters of an hour during a heavy storm. These are the same people who have been put forth as having such great virtue. To the people I call one-liners, who use small snippets from the Bible to prove their point, I say I feel sorry for you that you have such a stern and vindictive God. My God is a kind and loving man whom I have a good rapport with. As I learned at a very young age, Jesus loves me. And this I know because the Bible tells me so. That and the 23rd Psalm are enough for me. I sure hope Jesus loves you too.
IF PROPOSITION B is passed, everyone who has a weapon will be carrying it. Who is going to monitor each and everyone carrying a weapon to see that they have the proper permit and are legal? The police are already understaffed, so how will control be handled? Who is going to stop citizens to check them out? This Proposition B is opening up a very large can of worms. The current Missouri law says it's legal to carry a gun openly, so why do we need a concealed-carry law?
I'M THE person who called in to comment about the Jackson "bus station" being a wooden crate. Now I read where some poor, deluded soul thinks I was mistaken and that the real bus station is actually housed in the building at 117 Main. That's incorrect. It is absolutely not a bus station simply because it has a Greyhound sign in the window. That is a package depot. That is where people come to send packages on the Greyhound buses. That is in no way, shape or form where people come to catch the bus.
I'M CALLING in reference to all the junk in Oak Ridge. It is visible from all our main roads, both Route D and Route E. It degrades our town. Are the village officials aware how this looks to our community?
I DON'T know why everyone is making such a big deal about this concealed-carry issue. It's already legal to carry a weapon in Missouri, it just can't be concealed. Why don't all these Rambo wannabes just strap on their holsters before they drive down to the grocery store?
REGARDING THE murders of the young women in Mexico, there's a better way to refer to it than "sex murders." It seems that our paper has become cheapened, or at least the AP has become cheapened. I would think that saying the women were raped and murdered would be more appropriate than calling them "sex murders."
I WANT to comment on the fight over the tax cuts. Bill Clinton says the taxpayers wouldn't know how to spend their money right. Therefore, we can't give them a tax cut. The government knows better how to spend your money. It's mighty funny to me that we can give the Chinese billions of dollars worth of nuclear secrets and missile secrets to aim their rockets at American cities, but we can't give the people a tax cut. Maybe the secret is the taxpayers should give Clinton some campaign funds. Maybe if we did, Clinton would see that we need something instead of giving it all to the Chinese and the Indonesians.
YOU NOTICE how the Los Alamos spy scandal is being thrown back into the 1980s. That is to throw off any suspicion that Communist China got nuclear design information from Clinton in exchange for campaign money. Isn't it strange that if spy knowledge was known so far back, nothing was done in all that time to stop it? These obvious lies and cover-ups won't wash. Now Clinton needs a spy scapegoat to pretend that's how Communist China got our nuclear intelligence, that it wasn't he who exchanged high technology for campaign financing, but a spy did it. What a treasonous scoundrel.
IF THE surplus, as U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson correctly says, is phony, then is not the idea that Republicans say we should cut taxes because of the surplus just as phony? Let's keep the income coming in and pay down some of this darn debt and take care of Social Security. It's nothing more than a political gimmick to get votes. If the surplus is phony, so is the tax cut.
WHILE THE government has the United States taxpayer strangled with outrageous high taxes, the government is sitting up there in Washington trying to figure out what to do with all the surplus. Isn't this just too tragic to contemplate? They overtax the citizens, then can't decide how to divvy up the loot. And if the citizens were to rebel, they'd be in jail. We need some responsible and accountable legislators in Washington.
