AS A citizen I would just like to commend the youth of the community who took a stand at See You at the Pole. We believe in you and have a lot of confidence of your future leadership in the community, state and the country. We would also like to express our appreciation for the youth pastors and the support of parents who took a stand along with the kids throughout Southeast Missouri. Keep up the great work. We need more prayer, not less, in our region...

A prayerful stand

Let everyone play

I WOULD like to say that having been a coach before I know that importance of winning and the disappointment of losing. But I would like to see area coaches let all the kids participate in games. After all, who are the games in high school and junior high for. Aren't they for the kids? Football, basketball, baseball aren't they for the kids? All the kids practicing hard during the week are putting in sweat, time and good effort. I would like to see all the kids rewarded for that effort. I know you have to go with the starting lineup, but in the fourth quarter toward the end of the innings why can't we let all the kids participate? It would give them a lot of self-importance. Who knows, they might contribute to the team more than one would expect. Let's give all the kids a chance to play. There are a lot more kids on the team than just the starting team. Try it, coaches. I think you well have pretty good success with it.

Gore supporter

AS AN intelligent well informed Democrat and a woman, I am for Gore because he can pronounce simple words and speak well. Gore is very informed, has experience and cares about all people. Also, because of Clinton and Gore, we have best economy and much better foreign relations all due to Clinton and Gore's budget.

Way to go, team

HURRAY FOR the Southeast football team. Double hurray. I have always been a fan even when they were losing. Congratulations. Great job. To you fair-weather fans, a big old raspberry. Good job, Southeast.

Kitten thieves

YOU CAN'T be too careful. Our neighbors here in Jackson had two six week old kittens stolen from their own back yard. Shame on the thief. How low down can you get?

Speed entrapment

THE NEW stretch of Highway 74 in Cape Girardeau is a speed trap for you. They pulled me over. It is a 45 mph speed limit, and it is easy to miss the sign. But beware they hide out. No warning signs. It is an entrapment.

Ignoring the data

A RETIRED science teacher recently offered us assuring information that global warming is a scam. To me, this demonstrates that retired science teachers are capable of accurately using the intuitive method even in the face of overwhelming empirical data to the contrary.

Shoddy contractors

I WOULD like to know what a property owner can do about these shoddy contractors. They are supposed to do good work. They come in and just mess the house up. They charge you a big bill and leave. They use used lumber and charge you for stuff they didn't use. I would like someone to tell me what can be done about it. Believe you me there are plenty of them around.

Whistling in wind

CLINTON AND GORE took oaths twice in 1992 and 1996 to uphold our democracy and Constitution and the offices of the presidency and vice presidency. They have violated their oaths and brought indecency and lack of respect to the White House and the presidency. Now Gore thinks he should be able to continue this corruption of our democracy. He is whistling in the wind. The law-abiding citizens want no more of this Clinton-Gore administration. Americans love freedom, not autocrats. And they will make it loud and clear in November.

We want to help

I SEE in the paper Alec Baldwin has been quoted saying that if George Bush wins the election in November that the is moving out of the United States. I just wanted to know if the Southeast Missourian can get me an address where I can send a donation for his trip.
