THANK YOU, Mrs. Buck, for your informative article about Jackson's schools. I really feel the article belonged on the opinion page. However, you are to be commended for fanning the assent and dissent surrounding the issue.
I AM calling in regards to the portable toilets at the SEMO District Fair. I went to the Demolition Derby Wednesday night and had to use the restroom. I waited some time before using the facilities because of the unsanitary state and foul odor that usually goes with them. But to my surprise they were immaculate and odorless with wash stands. Thank you.
PLEASE BASE your decision on your vote for the Jackson school bond issue on what is needed at the junior high, not how you feel about the school board, how long you have lived in Jackson or that you are angry about what someone said. Tours are available at the junior high. Please go see for yourself what the needs are and then decide how you need to vote.
THIS IS an opinion on the SEMO District Fair. I am a father of a 5-year-old little girl who was on a ride at the fair and who was verbally chastised by a gentleman running the ride. Yelling and screaming at her to hold on with both hands and she was holding on with one hand and a very slow ride and she took one second to wave at her mother and myself. We were both very offended by the way the gentleman handled our daughter yelling and screaming and using profanity towards her. At the conclusion of the ride I asked him for his name. He proceeded to use profanity toward me. I went to the person I was directed to who was in charge of the rides, someone who was a member of the Astro Rides Co., but this gentlemen was allowed to continue to run the rides. I was just wondering how the people in Arena Park allow this kind of behavior to happen around children.
TO ALL those who are glad Clinton vetoed the bill that would have given a little money to fat cats: Of course, the fat cats have made possible our nation, newspapers, radio, television, railroads, computers, Internet, automobiles, gasoline, airplanes, ships, plow, cotton gin, steel industry, your job and mine. When are Democrats going to realize how foolish it is to hate the fat cats? Without them, we would still be out plowing the ground with a bent stick back in Europe or Africa.
I AM happy as a lark that Heidi Hall is returning to the Southeast Missourian. She will make a super managing editor. I also assume she will continue writing her hilarious column.
I WAS just wondering if it were really necessary to close up North and South Kingshighway on Thursday at lunch time to paint the arrows on the street while the fair was going on. I think the engineer in the street department needs to have his head examined before he gets someone hurt or killed who works for him.
FOR THE person who said they wanted a steeply graduated income tax and universal health care: Sorry, friend, you already missed out on it. You should have moved to Russia while the Soviet Union was going. Over there they had health care and graduated income tax. Only thing, no one had a job and no one could buy anything. Socialism assures that everybody will be in need, everybody will be poor.
I HAVE noted many Speak Out callers are sick and tired. They are sick and tired of this and sick of tired of that. Do they really mean they are both nauseated and fatigued? I guess I am sick and tired of Speak Out callers being sick and tired.
TO THE caller whose comments are titled "Save senior citizens": You should stop listening to what the mainstream media are telling you and listen to what George Bush is telling you. He addresses every one of your problems.
IT IS a shame when a law officer comes on a television political commercial and makes political statements that aren't true. This should be a crime. For his information, Mr. Carnahan only approved a drop in the bucket to help fight the meth problem we have in Missouri, and it is a disgrace to decent enforcement officers. We don't need political cronies lying to help their benefactor, especially not an officer of the law.
THANKS TO the Missourian for clarifying the road-tax 2-cent increase. I hope Jackson Mayor Sander will also reveal the 1-cent tax increase given to the Jackson city populous. It was increased to $1 from 99 cents. Thank you for this service.
WELL, BOYS, all it took was one word from the Bush campaign to lose any chance of claiming the high ground. RATS has made it appear that the Bush boy is nothing more than an extension of the Nixon style of doing business. Bush's lame excuses and attempts to lie to Diane Sawyer and then being very irate and firing the perpetrator of the Rats ad make him look like a co-conspirator.
TO PAY $80 rent at the Fruitland school for a reunion for three hours is to me a bargain of a century. The janitor and the cleaning supplies will cost that much . You are not being ripped off. That is pocket change compared to what some places charge. Try renting the new Osage Centre and see what it would cost you for three hours.
