Realizing it would not get nearly the same amount of media coverage, I still encourage area schools to go all out and institute academic halls of fame above and beyond the hour or two given over to induction into honor societies and a couple of speeches at graduation.
If you watch television or surf the Web, you will notice something. From the 9/11 truth movement to the shape-shift lizards, from the Illuminati and Freemasons to Barack Obama's birth certificate, we live in the golden age of conspiracy theories. But the real truth is there are no conspiracies, just paranoid delusions.
Back at the end of George W. Bush's term in office, Joe Biden told the Democrats they should block any Supreme Court nominations should a judge retire. It appears the hypocrisy of the Democrats is showing again. They don't care about right, wrong or working on other things; all they care about is their party getting power.
Is it possible the city can stop wasting money patching Lexington Avenue and actually repair it? Saw-cut it 2 feet off the back of the curb, break up and compact the concrete road and asphalt over it: no driveways or drains to replace, easily and quickly overlayed, compared to spending many months and large amounts of taxpayer money replacing concrete streets that fall apart after a few years of freeze and thaw. You need to ask yourself why the Missouri Department of Transportation and the county road district use asphalt? Maybe because they are able to install a mile of asphalt in less time than it takes to concrete a city block, while being a lot more cost effective. For example, the entire length of Cape Rock Drive from Highway 177 to Lexington was done in around two weeks. This is over a mile. Come on, Cape. I can't be the only one in town tired of dodging potholes on crappy roads in constant need of repair.
On Friday a friend and I ate at the airport restaurant. We were enjoying our lunch and a gentleman named Rob stopped at our table and spoke a little to us, then picked up our ticket and paid for our meal. I just wished to say a big thank you to him. And then I found out who he is, and it made me feel more thankful. Thank you, Rob.
It's sad these days to read Speak Out. Everyone is always wanting something from the government. John F. Kennedy said it best: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." The government doesn't have the money until they steal it from us, the taxpayer.
When fuel prices went up, everybody raised the prices of groceries. Fuel prices have come down. How come grocery prices have not dropped also?
