Well, the summer is almost over, and I would like to give a big thank you to Scott City Public Works and those guys who work so hard to keep our park looking great all summer. You know who you are. I wish I could give you a big pat on the back. And I've seen you out there mowing when it has been so incredibly hot. You guys really do a good job.
Right now, the way the country is, the world over, all the wars and fighting and all, wouldn't it be nice if we had a leader who knew how to lead?
I see on TV where the president says that he does not have an opinion or a strategy for ISIS. You know, if he would stay off the golf course and stay out of fundraisers for a week, he might get something done to help the American people.
I was wondering when the administration of the Cape Girardeau Public Schools are going to put back the Benjamin Franklin statue at Franklin School as they have promised.
Why don't they just hurry up and close Cottonwood? What are they waiting on? Just costing the taxpayers money.
I remember Martin Luther King Jr. And Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are no Martin Luther King Jr.
Regarding Ferguson, I'm so incensed at our governor that feels compelled to give them millions to rebuild what they tore down. They tore it down. Let them repair it. Or let them do without those stores and drive 80 miles. It will make them stop and think the next time.
So, Obama says he doesn't have a plan concerning ISIS. I say the man doesn't have a clue.
Though certainly not the sole reason for Cape's public schools substantial improvement in academic achievement, significant credit for the improvement goes to the senior high's Preparing for Academic Success (PAS) program. Schools around the country are said to be implementing a similar program, using Cape's approach as a model.
Rules of engagement
Let me be clear, please. I want you to understand that I don't believe that our military should be able to go to another country and just run around killing all sorts of people who are noncombatants. I don't suggest that. But the rules of engagement, the rules of contact that our soldiers are dealing with today are getting our soldiers killed. It's just unconscionable to me. Occasionally one of them screws up and kills somebody they shouldn't. And they end up in Leavenworth for it or some other government penitentiary. Today, if Sgt. York were alive, Sgt. York by his conduct would be a war criminal. Now think about that. Sgt. York would be a war criminal.
Our city and county parks are having too many things put in them. They're getting to be more of a carnival atmosphere than the nice, peaceful and serene atmosphere that they should have. Please, don't add anymore items for sports or anything else. Let's keep our parks pretty.
We were able to take a fun mini-vacation over the Labor Day weekend thanks to the president keeping gas prices low.
