Third party

Four U.S. Presidents were members of the Whig Party. The party was made up of those who split from the Democrats who were opposed to the policies of Andrew Jackson. Future historians will write that the anti-Republican establishment Donald Trump movement of the early 21st century led to a split in the Republican Party and a still-to- be-named rise of a competitive and strong third political party.

Priorities

Unbelievable. The government is attempting to make a rule requiring that the first responsibility of all financial advisers should be to their clients and the insurance companies and Wall Street are fighting the proposal like crazy.

Godly principles

Reply to "Godly principles," the United States was not founded on Christian principles. Even though the uneducated members of 1700s American society were Christian. The highly educated members, including the founding fathers, were deists and they would be atheists if they where alive today.

Lincoln

I get a kick out of Republicans and their Lincoln Day gatherings. If Lincoln were here today, what would his views be on the Republican "southern strategy" leading up to the 1964 Civil Rights Act? Or the laws aimed at restricting minority voting being passed today? For those of you too young to remember the "strategy," look it up. Also Lincoln said this, "Object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need done, but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do, for themselves, in their separate and individual capacities." What would he think about the first budgets cuts wanted by these folks being the aid to the unemployed or working poor? I firmly believe that if Lincoln were to espouse his beliefs today before an audience of this era's Republican party, he would be booed from the stage.

Home schooling

I was shocked beyond belief to read that in state after state after state there is little if any regulation of home schooling. Unbelievable!

Statue

I would like to applaud the University of Texas for taking down the statue of Jefferson Davis. They should replace it with a statue of Abraham Lincoln, one of America's greatest heroes and a lover of human freedoms.

Establishment

What an inside the beltway, establishment, snarky thing to say. U.S. Senator Roy Blunt recently observed that even Donald Trump would be better than anything the Democratic candidates for president have to offer. Note the phrase, "even Donald Trump." Don't think The Donald didn't take note of that Republican elitist put down thing to say and will, once elected president, retaliate against Roy.

Mountain

All the trouble that we have got in our country and things the president should be doing at home ... not going to Alaska and changing the name of the mountain. Come on. Aren't you supposed to help down here? You were elected president, but, boy, you've been a poor one.
