I was just coming back into town on Route K. A car from Notre Dame had pulled out behind me. As I got closer to Wal-Mart, it got all the way in the other lane. Had there been someone coming, there would have been a head-on collision. The car then swerved over the center line about three different times, before it turned off into the Wal-Mart exit. Really, something needs to be done. As the car turned, I noticed that the driver was young and had a phone in their hand.
I was wondering how come 180 people can decide whether or not my property tax goes up? Come on. Haven't we been taxed enough? Give us a break. The only thing we're going to do is help the bars downtown clean up after the drunks have all been down there.
I am a gambling addict. Everything about the casino is made to draw you in. Free money. It's not free. The lights. The sound. The entire atmosphere. Please don't let your children start gambling. I have ruined my life to the point that I can't retire. The casino is such a bad thing for our city.
It's interesting to hear the Associated Press, which should be called the "Obama Press," try and make excuses for how horrendous the economy is now, particularly when we're heading into the election cycle. Everything that people buy on a (daily) basis is astronomically higher. Beef is record prices. Milk is record prices. Pork, shrimp, chicken's headed that way. Everything that people need to buy or eat. And these costs are directly associated with Obama's idiotic and ideologically based economic policy and his insistence on maintaining a ridiculous price of gasoline.
Yes, I'd just like to comment about the streets in Cape Girardeau. As much taxes as the citizens pay in this city, can't we at least get our streets fixed so they're smooth and it's not like you're going down stair steps? The streets in Cape Girardeau are terrible. And the city has not taken care of them or maintained them or done anything with them in years. And I think we pay enough taxes and the city has enough revenue coming in, they could fix some of these streets. The new stoplights they put up on William Street and Sheridan, they were much needed. But it's like you're going over some kind or steps or something when you get there. Those streets need to be repaired.
The front page of the Southeast Missourian today, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, was so enlightening. No, that's not the word. Never mind. It is so thrilling to see such a wonderful front page, set off by the walk and the party in the south side, and the river day, the upset of the football team. Everything was just terrific. Thanks, Southeast Missourian.
Thank you, Taylor Crowe, for the cartoon depicting how a lot of people feel about the R-rated movie "Gone Girl." Our family would like to see the movie, because it was filmed in the area. But we will not attend, because it is R-rated, which speaks for itself.
The holidays are not far away. I hope when the Missourian begins printing the holiday desserts they remember to include sugar-free goodies.
Yes, every time I see somebody charged with a DWI in the paper, the police report, I get incensed all over again. If we didn't have a bar on every corner in this town so we could cater to the little college students who need a place to party, we wouldn't see so many DWIs. It's endangering all of our lives. Shut down a bunch of these bars. We don't need them.
