War powers

Those believing that Obama has the authority to send troops into combat need to read the War Powers Act. There are three times the president has authority to use force: 1) Congress declares war; 2) The president is given specific statutory authorization to use force; 3) The U.S. is attacked. None of the three have occurred, so the president cannot use military action. Should Congress approve their use, he can do so. However, that appears unlikely at this time. Should Congress deny his request and Obama use military action in defiance of Congress, Obama must be impeached.

Fair parking

The SEMO District Fair is always featured as a place to have lots of fun! Question: Whatever happened to the white train cars that came through the parking lots to pick up people to take them to the fair and back to their cars? (This was such a great thing in the past since you were parked at the far end of the baseball fields by attendants, and it is a problem for some to walk that distance and then walk at the fair grounds.) After parking we discovered there were no train cars to pick up pedestrians. We were then charged $4 at the gate per person. Please consider for next year instead of charging $4 at the gate, charge $4 to park your car and then provide a ride to the gate entrance for those who need it. You are still making money.

Stay at home

I'd like to comment on the flooding in Colorado and the fires in California and New Jersey. It seems like everything in the U.S. is a catastrophe. It makes a person wonder why we're so worried about foreign countries and helping them when we need to stay home and help our own people. We have people who are homeless and have no insurance and going through all kinds of catastrophes. We need to stay home and help our own people first and get this country back on its feet. Then, and only then, should we help other countries.

Raising taxes

The Cape Girardeau County Commission raised our property tax last year, and now they're raising it again this year. The city of Cape Girardeau does the same thing. The people of Cape Girardeau should stand up to the county and the city and vote "no" on any taxes to be renewed.
