I'M CALLING to thank the man and woman that found my purse on the Schnucks parking lot Saturday.
Gravel hazard
HOW MANY wrecks have to happen at the stone quarry on Route OO near Burfordville before the highway department is held accountable for keeping the gravel cleaned up off the road? This is the second accident so far this summer. I've almost wrecked a couple times there. I wish someone would look into this because I believe that failure to secure a load is the responsibility of either the truck driver or the person doing the loading. This is obviously a hazard, and someone needs to do something about it.
Buckled street
WOULD SOMEONE from the city please fix the buckled concrete on Mount Auburn Road right across from Kies' Eye Care Center? This buckle in the road is going to ruin a bunch of tires and alignments if you don't fix it. It's been this way for two weeks, and it's getting worse by the day. Please fix it.

Will is lacking
THE SURGE is working, but the political will is lacking as the Iraqis and the U.S. public generally seem to have irreversibly withdrawn support for continued U.S. involvement. The only hope may be a sooner-rather-than-later unconditional surrender by al-Qaida in Iraq and an end to the Iraqi civil war.
Regional view
RUSH LIMBAUGH recently seemed puzzled by the fact that most Americans are against the war because, he said, they don't have a personal stake in it. Wait a minute. I thought we all had a personal stake in the war against international terrorism. Perhaps Limbaugh was referring to the fact that we have an all-volunteer military and that most of the fighting is being done by residents of areas like Heartland America and rural areas across America and not his command post in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Doing the job
OBVIOUSLY, THE people complaining about Democrats not getting anything done have no clue about how the legislative branch works. Democrats do not have the ammunition needed for change. How can anyone believe anything the president's cronies report when this is an administration based on lies and corruption? Many generals and high-ranking officers in the U.S. military disconfirm much of what other so-called experts claim when speaking of success. And would somebody please tell me what "winning" or "success" is in Iraq in addition to getting the job done. Use specifics, because all of the vague political jargon undermines my intellect. I don't think that many Democrats will be content with the war until Osama bin Laden is tracked down and executed, since he's the real reason for 99 percent of terrorism against Americans.
From Baghdad
SEVERAL PEOPLE have recently accused others of planting stories on behalf of soldiers in Iraq. The accusers state that soldiers in Iraq probably had better things to do than call the Southeast Missourian. First off, in Baghdad I pay for wireless Internet. It's surprisingly affordable. And as a person who hangs his hat in Southeast Missouri when I'm not in Iraq, I love to keep up with home via the newspaper's Web site. Lastly, it never ceases to amaze me when some anonymous blogger knows more about Iraq than I do as I sit in the middle of Baghdad.
