In most years, according to the U.S. Agency for International Development, the United States spends only about 1 percent of our budget on foreign aid. This puts us dead last in a list of 22 developed countries seeking to influence the world's developing countries toward freedom and justice. Ending foreign aid would be a drop in the bucket toward ending the deficit.

Space, jobs

Going to Mars and the moon are what the governments needs to do. The technology and inspiration that the program produces will do far more to help the economy than any job program or stimulus package. As for the government creating jobs, the government does not create jobs, people do. So if you want a job, go out and make one.

Where are parents?

I see where Obama's letting all these illegal children brought here by their parents have amnesty and letting them stay here. My question is: Where are all their parents? Thank you.

I had to smile when I read "Life as we know it without the Internet" about the man giving up his landline phone. I may be 80, but I wouldn't give up my landline phone for anything in this world. When everything else gives out, I have that to depend on.

Bad TV shows

How many of you have thought about how horrible our television is? Why can't we have good home family shows like we used to have and the good old country music shows, and no shooting and vulgar language?

Deer ordinance

People in Cape do not want this deer hunting issue to continue to be such an issue. The Cape Girardeau City Council can get the situation resolved by repealing it, and then proceed to governing on major problems and projects within our town.

Mail problem

About once a week, when I go to get my mail from the mail box, it is in a big mess. My mail is all wrinkled and basically rolled into a ball. It looks terrible. My mail box is big enough for all of it, so why does my mail look like a paper wad when I get it? It is especially troublesome when I have important documents in that paper wad. If the post office wants to keep operating in Cape, maybe its workers should treat the citizens' mail with a little more respect.
