WHO IS responsible for the railroad crossing in Gordonville? It is terrible. You can wreck a car going over there. The crossing in Jackson is just as bad.
I HAD the pleasure of experiencing the security at Central High School as a parent who went to the office to check out my son. While waiting for him to arrive, I clearly was in view of the office and minding my own business. I was harassed by the security guard. I left the building without my son because of it. After my return I was thrown out by the principal after handing him my visitor's pass and stating the school board would hear about the lockdown attitude and lack of welcome for parents. What do these children endure? Security and safety do not mean lack of privacy and violations of civil rights. I question every disciplinary action coming out of that school. We send our children to school to learn to be well-rounded adults who will contribute to society. Why are we allowing them to be brainwashed into the belief that this lockdown know-all attitude and strong-arm mentality are OK? What happened to the beauty of expression and the art of life? We are telling the children they are not good enough to be trusted.
I HAVE to speak out for many parents in the Jackson School District who are as enraged as I am. We all got the supply list at the beginning of the year, which was to be expected. Now we must hunt for more supplies just two days after school begins, and we will probably have to drop another $100 per student. I say "hunt" because, as many of you have noticed, most of the stores are just about out of everything. I have been asking if some of these places will be getting more, and the answer has been no. The reason I am as enraged as other parents is the fact that, being a military family, we are on a tight income. Thank you for letting me get this off of my chest for all those parents.
I'VE ALWAYS opposed subsidized-housing complexes and their surrounding accouterments, but if I can live there at a reduced rate I will strongly support the proposed statewide taxpayer subsidy for the St. Louis Cardinal Ballpark Village.
I AM responding to the comments about the Delta City Park. I think it looks cleaner than it has in the past 20 years. Whoever is taking care of it is doing a great job.
THE PEOPLE are ultimately responsible for our government. Therefore, popular sovereignty dictates that all repairs and improvements on Cape Girardeau's new federal courthouse be borne by the taxpayers.
