Holding the line I AGREE with the person who said remember the Republicans on Election Day. I will definitely remember them. I'll vote for every darn one of them. They did a real good job. It's time for somebody to hold the line on spending. Useless road work...

Holding the line

I AGREE with the person who said remember the Republicans on Election Day. I will definitely remember them. I'll vote for every darn one of them. They did a real good job. It's time for somebody to hold the line on spending.

Useless road work

THE ROAD grader is back tearing up County Road 244. The road finally became decent and safe. If the county is trying to save money, it needs to stop sending the graders out doing useless work. A car traveling 10 mph down County Road 244 can't meet another car and pass it safely because the dust is so thick. It's dangerous. Please, our road is fine. Leave us alone and find something useful for the workers to do.

Yielding while merging

I JUST came back from vacation. In Indiana and parts of Illinois, people merging onto the interstates seem to have it right. They slow down and yield to the traffic that's on the highway. More people need to realize that when you're pulling onto the highway, you're supposed to yield to the highway traffic. Have some patience in life. You'll live longer.

Wonderful evening

THANK YOU, Fountainbleau Lodge for a wonderful family evening. The barbecue meal was very good and the music was relaxing and the fireworks display was fantastic. Your hard work is appreciated. Thanks again.

Open up the street

I'D LIKE to know how much longer Aquamsi Street is going to be closed underneath the bridge. They are finished with the bridge across the road. It's kind of ludicrous that they're keeping it closed. It is a shortcut to a lot of business places.

Cause to wonder

THERE ARE people out there who go their entire lives and never speak to a police officer except to say good morning. And then there are these other folks whom the police, for some reason, single out to pick on from the time they're in grade school until they die. I just wonder about that.

Great Libertyfest

THE LIBERTYFEST in Cape Girardeau was absolutely fabulous. Thank you so much to anyone who was responsible. It was a absolutely wonderful event. It was very enjoyable and very well done. We appreciate being able to live in a city like Cape Girardeau.

A bit of reason

A MOST interesting Opinion page. John Bierk states his opinion clearly and well. If only people would read and try to understand. David Limbaugh's panic-stricken diatribe against our crumbling moral foundations is really a lament about our crumbling moral pretentions. Long may they crumble. I had to laugh at his hope that the president should use his bully pulpit to challenge the court. Haven't the bullies had their way long enough? It is lovely to see a bit of reason injected into this subject of privacy and personal freedom. It was long awaited.

Sorry situation

PAT BUCHANAN writing in the current issue of "Human Events" has a good warning for us. "The house of conservatism is a house divided. Conservatives of today are not the conservatives of yesterday. Many embrace the foreign policy of Wilson, the trade policy of FDR and immigration policy of LBJ. They have made their peace with big government. Can anyone name a federal agency that George W. Bush or his father shut down or a single federal program they have abolished? Many of today's conservatives would have been called liberals in the 1960s. Indeed, some were liberals then. And their progeny has come to accept foreign aid, the Department of Education, even the National Endowment for the Arts, they call it compassionate conservatism." What a sorry situation for the conservatives, especially Republican conservatives, in this day and time to face.

Ban fireworks

IT WASN'T bad enough that they burned down one house in our neighborhood. They tried to burn down some more. It's time we ban fireworks.

Friendly truckers

TO THE people who complain about the trucks on the highway: When the trucks stop being there will be when the things we buy every day will no longer available -- even the vehicle you drive while complaining. When that friendly truck driver passes you, do that person a favor by flashing your lights when the end of his truck has safely past the front of your vehicle. That lets the truck driver know he or she can safely return to the right lane. Just remember, that driver you helped could be my son or someone's daughter.

Display of flags

THANK YOU, St. Andrew Lutheran Church, for the display of all the flags around your church. What a wonderful way to remember the freedom in our country. The flags were beautiful.

No qualifications

AL SHARPTON's running for president must be a joke. It's like a high school dropout wanting to do brain surgery. He says he has the qualifications. I don't think so.
