Kudos to courageous conservative columnist Rich Lowry for his June 8 piece published in the Southeast Missourian and appropriately titled, The Swift-Boating of Bowe Bergdahl. Scare tactics I noticed your headline that con artists are using legitimate news stories to scam victims. I did't read the story but was it about the misuse of the media to scare people, a con perpetrated by radical right wingers?...

Lowry column

Kudos to courageous conservative columnist Rich Lowry for his June 8 piece published in the Southeast Missourian and appropriately titled, The Swift-Boating of Bowe Bergdahl.

Scare tactics

I noticed your headline that con artists are using legitimate news stories to scam victims. I did't read the story but was it about the misuse of the media to scare people, a con perpetrated by radical right wingers?

Improvement

Enjoyed the meeting about the Community Improvement District. Going to see if I can form one to fix the streets on Lexington. The street is blighted year in and year out.

Hooray for arts

Hooray for the River Campus Summer Arts Festival. After ArtsCape disbanded, we are so excited about this event. This community needs an annual summer arts event for the whole family, and the River Campus has filled this void. Congratulations to everyone involved. It's going to be a wonderful day. We also can't wait to see "Nunsense." We're so happy live summer theater has also returned to Cape. Our community is becoming a tourist destination.

Veiled excuse

I applaud David Limbaugh's article in Monday's publication, regarding the Bergdahl situation. A veiled excuse indeed it was/is! And, Limbaugh's point about our president's "obsession with transforming America" is painfully true, and truly destructive. And, to participate in negotiations with terrorists for a hostage, without informing Congress is not only against the law, but as Limbaugh points out, against the volition of patriotic Americans, whose security throughout the world, is now placed at an even higher risk. "Really poor choice" is what we are left to say, as we shake our heads, and cover them! He (our petulant president) does not play well with others, and is in need of a serious time out!

Squabble love

The intra-Republican Party political war is reminiscent of that with the Democratic Party in the 1960s. I love it!

Monarchy love

Wow! Cape councilman/historian/commentator Dr. Wayne Bowen has seemingly done an about-face. I was almost certain that at one time Dr. Bowen was a Dick Cheney neoconservative, thinking it would be in America's interest to spread democracy around the world, with force if necessary. I guess I was wrong because he is now extolling the virtues of monarchical rule and apparently thinks it would be in the U.S.'s best interest to promote the rule of (absolute?) monarchs around the world. I happen to agree with Dr. Bowen's assessment. Perhaps he is like me and has been very impressed with the rule of King Barack I.

Well, now what?

NRA and the Republicans have pushed that if everyone was armed it would be safer. Well, the armed man in Wal-Mart just lost his life and his family has lost him also. Because of the lies they are telling. There is more and more killing everyday because of them and their greed.

Poor, fines

Roughly one million low-income Americans will pay a fine under Obamacare, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

Regulating regulators

In the past Peter Kinder has spoken eloquently about the need to rein in regulators. It is surprising then that he chastises Governor Nixon for not appointing people to all of the regulatory committees that the state has in place. Come on Mr. Kinder, not having 1,000 regulatory positions filled is a good thing, not bad.
