Ready for the race

AFTER DRIVING the streets of Cape Girardeau and avoiding all the potholes and driving the rough roads which need to be resurfaced, I believe I am ready for NASCAR.

Bring on the cameras

I THINK cameras in public places in Cape Girardeau is a fantastic idea. Maybe the fact that there might be cameras might make people think twice and stop them from making a horrible mistake that would follow them for the rest of their life.

Social Security burden

DO THE lawmakers of this country really think they can offer illegal aliens amnesty by following a few rules and in 10 years be legal to draw Social Security and all the other programs which were designed for and paid for by American citizens? If Social Security is in trouble now, how can the administration bring in more immigrants and place them on Social Security? Where is that money coming from? The taxpayers, of course.

Unneeded embassy

IT IS ridiculous for the United States to be building an embassy in Baghdad that cost $592 million and has to bombproof. We need to be getting out.

Flying trash

IF YOU are going to haul trash and garbage, keep it on your truck. I am tired of seeing you going down the highway with trash flying out of the truck and all over the highways.

Thanks for repairs

I WOULD like to say thank you to the city employees for repairing the Kenneth Street problem by replacing concrete. Thank you for your hard work.

Amnesty plan

I WANT to comment on this amnesty bill the president and the Democrats have gotten up. The radio shows are saying you should call your representatives and senators. You should try calling Sen. Claire McCaskill here in Missouri, especially you union people. I wonder how much these unskilled workers will affect your union wages. When we get 30 million new residents in here, it is going to change America.

Good sportsmanship

I WOULD like to commend the Cape Girardeau and Jackson fifth- and sixth-grade girls for their great display of team sportsmanship at the last two tournaments we attended in Perryville and Cape Girardeau. They would form a tunnel and cheer for the losing team, and then the losing team would turn around and cheer for that team. It was a great show of showmanship. We should all be very proud of them.

Double standard

WHY IS it OK for Mexicans to come to this country illegally? However, if a Haitian or European does that, he is immediately deported. It seems like a double standard to me.

Waste at stoplights

PLEASE ADJUST the stoplights so we don't have to wait. Just think how much gas that would save.

Tragedy avoided

LAST WEEK I narrowly missed a preschool boy who was dealing with his candy bar in the middle of the Themis Street. His shiny red bike was laying flat in the middle of the street closer to the middle line than the curb. Both lanes of traffic came to a stop. Finally he picked up the bike and returned to the curb. My relief at having avoided a tragedy turned to anger. Where were the parents?

Let's move on

I MOVED here from Iowa 27 years ago. At that time Iowa already had ethanol plants and had no problems or complaints. We need to quit wallowing in the negative and move forward. What is the alternative?
