Trump dangerous

I am really surprised that so many Republicans are rallying around Donald Trump. Donald a Trump is qualitatively different from any Republican candidate for president in modern times. Besides being a serial liar, xenophobe, racist, misogynist, and birther, Donald is a very dangerous man. I have little doubt that he would be our last president, as the United States would descend into chaotic anarchy, eventually giving rise to a Napoleon or Caesar Augustus type as our experiment in representative democracy comes to an end.

Pro life?

Can someone explain this to me? I've never understood the pro-life position that allows for ranting and raving against stem-cell research but somehow considers fertility clinics almost sacrosanct and certainly out of bounds for criticism.

To-do list

Through all of the bluster and bullying, I see a streak of common sense moderation in Donald Trump. After all, making a deal is his modus operandi. Thus, I think making a deal on reforming gun laws will likely be high on President Trump's to-do list.

SEMO tweets

Dang, Southeast Missouri State University's got so much going for it, but apparently has a lot of work to do. According to the web magazine Fusion, among public colleges, SEMO students rank No. 1 in the most derogatory tweets overall, including the most derogatory tweets toward women.

Conservative columns

Thanks to the Southeast Missourian for continuing to publish columns by truly principled conservatives who refuse to compromise their core principles and jump aboard the Donald Trump train. The thing that surprises me is that there is so few of them. Even some of those I considered the staunchest conservatives have caved.

1930s

With Donald Trump rising in the polls, I'm starting to feel like I'm living in the early 1930s in Weimar, Germany.

Denouncing Trump

Mike Jensen seemed to get on board with the "anybody but Hillary" crowd in a recent column. As a result, Jensen joins a growing number of rank Republican hypocrites who previously denounced Donald Trump in no uncertain terms and declared him unfit for the presidency. And so it goes.

Subsidies

Seventy-three percent of Southeast Missouri State University's athletic budget comes from subsidies, 16 percent of which comes from student fees. Overall, this degree of subsidy is considered very significant. In other words, too much.

Detour routes

Thank you for publishing the detour routes to be used in Jackson during the construction of the roundabout. To me, they were more daunting than the labyrinth Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) attempted but fatally failed to navigate in "The Shining."
