CYCLISTS share the road with cars, but not at the same level. Not all riders share the busy roads in the same manner. Cars traveling at greater speeds must slow down and wait to pass riders who do not move to the paved shoulder or sidewalk.
I take exception to the pastor's comments regarding the dress code at Scott City. He commented that it is about control and that it is heading toward a socialist agenda. It is about discipline, not control. I would think that as a pastor he would welcome a modicum of modesty, considering the kinds of clothing teenagers are wearing now.
SOME stores could use a dress code so when workers bend over they are not showing themselves.
I heard Sen. McCaskill claim that every part of the budget should be fair game for the budget debate, including military funding. Surprisingly, I agree with her. Go ahead and cut the military budget like the rest of the federal budget. But the school lunch program won't do much to keep us safe when the bullets start flying. No doubt our pacificist legislators would like nothing better than to turn the military into the Peace Corps.
A Speak Out contributor recently complained about the city wanting to put in a dog park. The caller doesn't understand that there's a good reason to do that. It's what the city's gone to.
IF people can't ride a bike on the road without a dedicated lane, then they should stay off the public roads. Cape Girardeau is a relatively small town, and most competent people can ride in major cities without any special bike lanes. Why are we even considering such a waste of public funds?
CAPE Girardeau appears to be heading in the wrong direction. Buildings on Broadway are allowed to rot. Instead of bringing in businesses that help the community, a casino is brought in. And proposals to improve the health of its people are blocked. What's next, all nude dancing? It really is a shame. Soon Cape Girardeau will be another dirty, has-been community.
I agree with Mike Jensen that our country will be more polarized than ever if we elect President Obama to a second term. That's why I favor Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin or Newt Gingrich. They'll unite us.
THE smoking ordinance was narrowly defeated. The key word there should be "narrowly." This should be a major wake-up call to smokers in the community. Nearly half of your fellow citizens do not like your smoke. You do not need a law to be considerate of those around you. If you take the initiative yourself to go outside and smoke, a law will remain unnecessary.
THERE was another serious accident in Cape Girardeau due to someone failing to stop at a stop sign. With all the people that have been running the stop lights and stop signs and speeding down the city streets, it's finally catching up.
