It's not the large number of people who signed up under the Affordable Care Act that counts. It's the better access to health care, affordability and preventive measures it provides that make it such a breakthrough piece of legislation, as was well articulated in a recently column in the Southeast Missourian by Donna Brazile.
Well, I guess we can just save all the money that we pay Congress, both houses, and let them all go home, since we have a dictator in the White House now. He just takes his pen and makes laws, changes laws, deletes laws and does anything he wants without any input from Congress, who is supposed to be making our laws.
Over the weekend we went to see the movie "Noah." And the movie "Noah" is completely different from the Bible Noah. In the Bible, Noah speaks directly to God. Actually, God speaks to Noah and tells Noah exactly how to build an ark and what precise dimensions to build it. In the movie, Noah is sort of a bewildered vegetarian, fighting against an army of meat-eaters. He never speaks to God, because God is never mentioned. And he's helped by this group of rock angels. Well, rock angels are not in the Bible. Some of the meat-eaters kill some of the rock angels. I don't think people can kill angels. It doesn't make any sense. It is not part of the Bible.
Columnist and Republican mouthpiece Mona Charen's advice to the many ills suffered by single women? Simple. Get married.
I this it is time to replace Dear Abby with a different advice columnist. Dear Abby used to be about common-sense moral answers. Now she has left morals behind. Her answers are more likely to reflect tolerance to immoral behavior and lack of ethics than good family values. It's time for her to go.
