DO people not realize that the Democrats have had political control for the past 10 to 11 years? Republicans have only had one of three branches of power. How can everything be their fault?
Great forum
I want to commend the Southeast Missourian for its excellent coverage of the smoking ballot issue. And I want to thank you for allowing us to write letters to the editor about the issue. The whole community benefits by you allowing all of us -- on both sides -- to have this forum. Thanks.
TV options
HAS anyone else noticed how vulgar, violent and mean spirited most TV has become? It is almost impossible to find a program that does not contain some vulgarities and/or obscenities, glorifying violence or attempting to demean or vilify individuals or groups of people.
Driving hazard
I travel every morning between William Street and Bloomfield Road on Christine Street around 6:30 a.m. There are many boulder construction trucks at that location. The trucks with their large front and rear bumpers are parked half way in the driving lanes! It's dark at this time of day and very hazardous to drivers on this street.

Casino layout
I think the casino should buy out all the properties up to Red Star Church and build an RV park and a motel by the boat dock. I'm sure those families don't want to be that close to the casino, and it would also clean up that area.
Great performance
"To Kill a Mockingbird" was simply the best university production I have ever seen. I cried. Then, I cried some more. What Kenneth L. Stilson does with those students is amazing. The River Campus is a true Cape Girardeau treasure, and every show he directs there is outstanding. Thank you to the entire Department of Theatre and Dance. Beautiful work!
Gas prices
IF gas prices aren't brought under control, they could reach the highs we had when George W. Bush was president.
Tenure Problem
TENURE has become a huge reason why America's children are not receiving the best possible education. Tenure prevents good teachers from being rewarded for the hard work that they do while allowing those teachers that underperform to keep their jobs. Without tenure, those teachers that don't perform as well as they should could be let go.
Bachmann run
I hope Michele Bachmann declares her candidacy for president soon. I can't wait to hear her explain how all the money her family received from federal farm subsidies over the years fits into her hands-off, small government platform.
Horrible drivers
IT amazes me how many horrible drivers there are in Cape Girardeau. When at a stop sign drivers overshoot the wide, white line that indicates the farthest you should travel forward, thereby causing any driver turning onto that street a difficult turn.
Great event
THANK you to Jackson High School for the great dinner and dance provided for the senior citizens a few weeks ago. It was very enjoyable, from the St. Pat's decorations, the delicious dinner, the wonderful dancing music, to the excellent serving of the students. What an impressive evening.
