Don't sell islands
SELLING MISSISSIPPI River islands would be a grave mistake. People will party, four-wheel, drink and boat as they already do from the Red Star boat access. As public lakes are being better policed, boaters are going to the river to avoid enforcement of the laws. Landowners appreciate the land, and big money won't budge some. I hope Cape Girardeau can do something to prevent this before we all learn the hard way and lives are lost.
HAS ANYONE else noticed that certain fast-food restaurants' television advertising makes their food look awesome, but when you buy it and it's like a lump of I don't know what. That's false advertisement, and it lures you to buy food that isn't good.
I NOTICED that 91 people worldwide have died from this Asian bird flu, and we're talking about spending billions of dollars on it. There are so many other things that are killing so many more people than this. I don't understand all the hype on this.
OFTEN GOVERNMENT waste is hidden. The new highway marker signs along I-55 stand out as examples of government waste even two-tenths of a mile. I hope someone investigates this and takes to task whoever's responsible for this boondoggle.
AM I the only one who sees potholes on Broadway at Perry Avenue? Or is it my imagination that there's about 10 big chugholes out in the middle of the street with no signs warning you about them?
DO WE have to go to the license bureau in the county where we live? I'm tired of the long lines in the Cape Girardeau office.
I HOPE we're not going back to where we started with the county transit authority buying the Kelly taxi company. If the public transportation in the city is going to be run like the taxi service, we'll be late for everything. I sincerely hope this works, but I doubt it.
PEOPLE WHO live in Forest Hill subdivision get second-rate postal service. We have lock boxes which most of us oppose. We have not received our mail for four days because the back is off the lock box. I called the post office and was told postal officials were aware of it and eventually would get it repaired. I asked if I could pick my mail up at the post office and was told I couldn't because it was taken to the terminal. Why can't we have our mail delivered to our homes like all the other people?
