IM CALLING concerning an act of kindness. Yesterday my car stopped at Walgreens, and a nice lady got out of her car and offered to push me into the Kmart parking lot. Id like to say thank you. There are still some very special people out there. And to the two young ladies who pushed my car: Thanks a million. And thank you, Speak Out...

Thanks for pushing stalled car

IM CALLING concerning an act of kindness. Yesterday my car stopped at Walgreens, and a nice lady got out of her car and offered to push me into the Kmart parking lot. Id like to say thank you. There are still some very special people out there. And to the two young ladies who pushed my car: Thanks a million. And thank you, Speak Out.

Bad judgment to repeat old offense

RECENTLY, THE arrest of three prostitutes in Cape Girardeau was front-page headline news in the Southeast Missourian. While one may wonder how the editor perceived the attitudes and mores of Capes citizens to give such prominence to this news, the most discouraging reporting came later in the article. Why was the name of the woman given who sold her daughter? The case is past. But that little girl is probably still trying to put her life back together. Bad judgment? Most definitely. Cruel? Hopefully unintentional.

No confusion about a tax cut

ISNT IT absolutely amazing, the present-day handling of Kings English. Suddenly our war machine becomes an asset. We dont invade. It is an incursion. Bombing innocent civilians into oblivion is now known as collateral damage. But our fine liberal friends continue to berate a tax cut. When will they begin to say it is a tax reduction?

Unruly behavior at swimming pool

ON AUG. 6 my 5-year-old son and I paid $3.50 to get into the Capaha Pool. For the most part it was fun, but around 2:30 there were three girls around 8 years old playing volleyball back and forth in the baby pool. Then there were two boys around 10 to 12 throwing water on the little guys. And our wonderful lifeguard sat there reading a magazine. I complained to management and then left.

Others not saving on water

I THOUGHT everyone was supposed to save on water. Today I saw three people washing their cars. Two people had sprinklers on all day. If we run out of water, these people will be the first ones to holler about having no water. They ought to come around and give these people a fine. We try to save on water, then you see all these other people who dont care.

McClure should support good events

IM SO proud to be from McClure. This weekends street events put on by the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were ridiculed and even had the police called in on them. McClure, cant you support the Scouts? Youve allowed homosexuals to use the roadside park just south of town and a so-called massage parlor to exist just south of that. Yeah, Im so proud to be from McClure.

Clinton will try anything for a legacy

IF BILLY Bubba takes on China, he will have met his Waterloo. Congress had better keep its eye on Clinton. Hes power hungry and may put the whole world at risk as he likes to live on the edge and cares not for consequences. Hes only concerned about his legacy and will do anything to enhance it, even a nuclear war. Hes a very dangerous, psychotic man.

Police already have advisory board

THIS IS in reference to the editorial on the police advisory board. The police already have an advisory board. Its called the City Council. Anyone can show up at these meetings and speak their piece.

Announcer at mud races was rude

I JUST came from attending the mud races at Gordonville, and I wonder if the announcer for the mud race has a chip on his shoulder and what school of etiquette he went to. I thought he was very rude.

Blame him for the dry spell too

EVERYBODY BLAMED President Clinton for everything. I guess theyll blame him for this drought too.

Add counties to congressional district

YOUR CONGRESSWOMAN, Jo Ann Emerson, would not have a chance if Jefferson County and Ste. Genevieve County would join our district. With all the union members in the liberal Democrat areas, she could say goodbye to her seat. I pray for the day that we get at least half of Jefferson County and all of Ste. Genevieve County. Then well have a real nice election.

Thanks for finding sons wallet

I WANT to say thank you to a very nice couple who found my sons wallet at Schnucks. We are very grateful.

Wrong for Clinton to veto tax cut

IT WOULD be inappropriate for Clinton to veto the tax reduction bill. In fact, it would be wrong.

Liberals are mind-numbed robots

I WANT to comment about the people who are complaining about Rush Limbaugh, how he said something about JFK. By complaining when you havent even heard what Rush said bears out what Rush has been saying a long time. Liberals think with emotions, and conservatives think with reason. These liberals have been told things by Dan Rather and all the big news media and the Democratic Party, but they dont know. They dont realize somebody has to pay for their welfare checks. Somebody has to go to war and fight with weapons that are inaccurate, such as in the Somali betrayal when men were put in there and werent given weapons. Somebody has to fight with weapons when the budget has been cut to give more social programs. There is a cost to all this, and Rush is right when he says that liberals think with emotion and not reason. Theyre the most mind-numbed robots I ever saw. All they care about is when they going to get their check.

McClure needs to show hometown pride

A SUGGESTION for McClure, Ill.: I returned to McClure for the high school reunion and was sad to see the change in the town. Going down Main Street, I was surprised to see how some of the dwellings are a disgrace. Im speaking of homes right on Main Street and near the fire station. My heart went out to those who tried to keep things nice. Come on, McClure, it takes more than a carnival to show real hometown pride.

Penalize troublemakers, not bars

THIS IS in reference to the editorial on closing the loopholes on state liquor license. I have a comment to make on this. Im so sick and tired of seeing the Southeast Missourians biased opinions about things like these. I dont go to bars, but I happen to have an idea of whats taking place. The city has a law that says that they should call if there is a disturbance. Then after they call, they are penalized for that. I think the law where they can get a resort license is very well deserved. That way the city cannot bully these people around who make a living this way. The person whos drunk and creating the disturbance in the bar is the one who should be going to jail. Dont penalize the bar owners.

Rush doesnt understand business reality

A FEW years ago I listened to Rush Limbaughs opening monologue in which he blathered on and on about Pizza Huts introduction of the Big Foot Pizza, and he said because of this entrepreneurial decision, Pizza Hut would open tens of hundreds of stores and would add 50,000 jobs. Well, what really happened is that within a couple of weeks Pizza Hut was copied by several of their competitors and the blathering of Rush Limbaugh came to naught. This proves his lack of understanding and the fact that Rush has no understanding of business operation and the reaction to competitive factors when there is no real product differentiation. You may want to be a ditto head to a person of such a complete lack of understanding of the real world, but I have absolutely no use for a person with such a lack of practical understanding of reality. I have always looked on Rush Limbaugh as one-half of a horse, and not the half you have to feed.
