I WOULD just like to make some comments about what I think is going to happen Nov. 7. I think we are going to see Al Gore in as president. I think I am almost positive Republicans are going to lose the House. I can't wait to see all those horrible Republicans up there lose all those chairmanships that they have and they have sit on the other side of the floor and keep their mouths shut for the next eight years. I'll tell you what: I have been waiting for this since 1994 when those idiots came in there with their little smart aleck Republican talks and won the House over. I think people have seen enough of them.
I WAS shocked by the vandalism that occurred at Patrick's Cleaners, but I am even more surprised that it was buried on the fourth page of Sunday's newspaper. It seems to me that this should be front-page news. The community should rally around the owner of Patrick's Cleaners and help to find the vandals. Let's get our priorities straight about what is really news in Cape Girardeau.
IT REALLY upsets me to hear Yankees try to sing "Dixie." The lyrics are not "Dixie land where I was born early on one frosty morn." It is "In Dixieland where I was born in, Early on one frosty mornin'." I wish they wouldn't try to sing it if they don't know it.
I JUST saw the television commercial where the nurse's association of Missouri is endorsing Mel Carnahan for senator. The nurse attacks John Ashcroft because he accepted $300,000 in campaign money from prescription drug companies. The first question is how much does the nurses association give Carnahan for his election to the Senate? The nurses also attack Ashcroft on his position on a patients' bill of rights, saying he doesn't support patients' rights. So my next question is, how can the nurses support Carnahan? After all, this is the man who vetoed a bill that would outlaw killing a human after the baby is born. The only patients that Carnahan cares about are those who can contribute to his election campaign.
IT IS too quiet in Jackson with respect to the bond issue coming up in the November election. Where are the leadership and the committees that want Jackson first? Either this is the worst case of reverse psychology, or they just conceded defeat. Why is the Chamber of Commerce the only one bringing the issue to the public's attention? While I applaud the chamber for its initiative, I will not attend this debate. We don't need a debate. We need reconciliation. If I was on the school board, I would make them drop it, make up some excuse like lack of interest or something. We don't need a debate, we need to get together on this issue.
RECENTLY MY mother, sister and I were at the Pioneer Orchard in Jackson. Our mother became ill. We want to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful ladies who came to help and called the ambulance. So a big thank you, and God bless you.
I RECENTLY went to Colorado, and the people out there were so nice and so polite and helpful. The people here in Cape are the rudest and have no morals and have no respect for anyone or even themselves. These are the worst drivers in the world. As soon as my kids are raised and educated and on their own, I am out of here. This town is the pits. I have been here for 42 years, and I hate every moment, second, minute, hour, day, week, month and year in this place.
I AM an Oran resident, and this is in response to the comment concerning the city turning off your water without further notice if your bill isn't paid. Well, duh. That letter was your notice.
I SEE that our City Council is considering videotaping traffic at signals here in Cape. It is all about revenue. Personally, I am sick and tired of our federal, state and local government infringing upon our civil liberties. What is next? Cameras in our parks, in our homes? Mayor Spradling, I don't need you or our City Council telling me to pay more attention to what I am doing. I can handle that without your help. I must urge the city to stand against this proposal.
I WOULD like to respond to "Enough gore" concerning the Teen Challenge float. Had these children not been told about the terrible suffering that our Lord endured on the cross? Many times we see him hanging on the cross with just a trickle of blood running down his face, but this is not a true picture. Before he was crucified, he was taken captive there by soldiers. He was blindfolded, hit with their fists and beaten on the head and spat upon. He was made to wear a crown of long sharp thorns pushed onto his head, and he was whipped. Gory? Yes, we might all agree that it was gory. Even God couldn't stand to look upon his only son, but he bore it for my sorrow and for your sorrow, and he was bruised for our sins. I don't see gore. I see love. Maybe you don't believe this, but what if it is true? What if?
WE NEED planning and zoning for our growth in the county. Otherwise, our county will look like Jefferson County. Take the Imperial exit and drive through some sections of Jefferson County. You will see what happens without planning and zoning. People in that area will go to the next county to build a home so they won't have to live in Jefferson County. Some areas in Cape County look like that. We got rid of Smelterville. We don't need another one. People need to have more pride and take care of what they own. So please vote yes on planning and zoning.
