I LISTENED to the Gore-Bush debate and heard Bush make a slurring remark to Gore about who slept in the White House. Bush knows Gore had nothing to do with who slept in the White House. That was spiteful just to get votes. I liked the way Gore answered him, but I would have said, "I do not blame you for your father's saying Read my lips, no new taxes.' It was a lie to get votes. But they didn't try to impeach him for lying. Nor about your brother's involvement in savings and loan scandals, and nothing was done because his father was president. But they hounded Clinton for eight years for doing the same thing." Also, I'd tell Bush, "I never used drugs and alcohol like you have. Only a shrink knows for sure how much your brains are fried. And you have the gall to ask people to let you be president." Wake up, voters. Bush is an oil millionaire and couldn't care less if you have to pay $2 a gallon for gas. He will do nothing to bring prices down. Your future and mine depend on who you vote for.
HOW TRAGIC that the infamous Al Gore can't be reminded in this campaign of his treason against our democracy by accepting foreign communist money to get elected before. Even more tragic is the fact that Clinton, Gore and Hillary are still loose upon the American people and not in prison where traitors to our democracy belong.
AS A parent of students in the Jackson School District, I recently toured the junior high school and read the new bond proposal. I am all for the addition of education classrooms, but I think the need for a multipurpose gym at the junior high is absolutely ridiculous, especially one that will cost nearly $2 million. Jackson needs to focus on education and not on sports. We already built a multipurpose gym for the high school when extra classroom space was needed there. When is it going to quit being about sports and start being about the things kids really need to know when they get out of high school and step into their futures?
CARNAHAN AND his hand-picked heir apparent are always mentioning values and morals in their ads. They have churches and religious hymns in the background. Yet both support abortion, even partial-birth abortion. They are the two liberal poster boys for the Democrats. What hypocrisy.
IF AL Gore or anybody else will lie about an insignificant thing, he will also lie about a great big major thing. Trust me.
I WAS so happy to read where Mr. Drury had won his lawsuit on holding up the tax money that was supposed to go to the River Campus. The college and the city officials jumped the gun on the River Campus project. It should never be built. I am so glad Mr. Drury won on that. He has no objections to the hotel-motel tax, just the way the city decided to use it.
I HAVE been listening to all the promises that are being made in the presidential election and especially the one the senior citizens want: all medicine and heat bills paid for. They don't care who pays long as they get it. From now on I will never say anything about people drawing welfare or anything like that. It looks like everybody is trying to get something free from the government, and from now on I am going to try to get everything I can from the government and I'll never feel a twinge of pain or guilt or anything.
I READ Peter Hilty's narrow-minded, selfish letter, and I must remind him that we were all not put on this earth just for his benefit. Take a long look at the city you live in. Look at the junk stores on Broadway and abandoned stores on Main Street. Look at the crumbling property in South Cape. Clean up your own city and quit trying to encroach on our country.
