COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, I don't know what part of no you don't understand. We voted out planning and zoning in 1992, and I don't think you know the definition of no. If people have extra tax money, let them put it on the school bonds. We need schools, but we don't need planning and zoning. Vote no...

We already said no

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, I don't know what part of no you don't understand. We voted out planning and zoning in 1992, and I don't think you know the definition of no. If people have extra tax money, let them put it on the school bonds. We need schools, but we don't need planning and zoning. Vote no.

Get rid of patronage

IT IS a real tragedy about Governor Carnahan's death, but it is an equal tragedy about the hundreds of people who worked in license bureaus whom he fired after his election in 1993. He apologized for his actions saying that he needed to return to the license bureau to the patronage system in order to repay all his campaign workers with jobs. Let's hope Governor Wilson rights a great wrong by returning the fired employees to their rightful jobs and removing the license bureau once again from the patronage system.

Want to leave a bit

I am a 71-year-old retired person, and I agree with the person who says the AARP feeds off of greed. It acts like all old people are destitute and living on the brink of starvation. This is not true. Most older people have money, but they want to leave it to the kids. So they are greedy enough to take everything that the taxpayers will give them so they can keep something to leave to the kids who will pay later.

It could be anyone

I AM calling about the Senate candidacy of Mel Carnahan. While I am sad to see him gone as governor and certainly understand the desire to vote for him as a tribute to his memory, I would urge voters to be cautious and remember that they, at this stage of the game of politics, are voting basically an empty spot, and we don't know who will be senator. So when you go to the polls, no matter how much you want to honor his memory, remember you could be voting for anybody. So be careful.

Cartoon said it all

I ABSOLUTELY loved the Oct. 23 editorial cartoon. It so described my feelings about voting in this election this year. I would rather vote for the vice presidential candidates for president than the presidential candidates we have. I don't like either one of them. However, I will be a citizen and will vote. I certainly understand how Dorothy feels. Thanks for a good laugh. What a great way to start the day.

Offensive cartoon

I AM calling about your cartoon that shows Al Gore as the tin man and Bush as the straw man. I am really offended by it. This is the kind of garbage you would expect out of a New York Times or a liberal newspaper.

Choices will be judged

THIS IS concerning the abortion issue. I wonder if our righteous Christians remember that the Lord himself gave men freedom of choice, God's will or man's will. To be pro-choice is just one more right to choose bad or good. All the choices we make, big or small, will be judged by God. We will also be judged for taking away the choice that he gave us. Jesus did not fight or make scenes for righteousness. Remember, he was very quiet man.

Voting for the dead

EVER SINCE I was a child back in the 1930s and 1940s, I have heard about dead Democrats voting. But this idea of voting for a dead person is absolutely ridiculous no matter how much respect we had for Mel Carnahan. We have no idea what we would get if the people vote for him.

It was for women

THIS IS to the men who went to the Women's Show. You just seemed to be standing around in the way of women who were trying to see things in the booth. A women's show is for women. What part of that don't you understand?
