I WAS just reading the article about the Jackson alderman's wife charged with assault. Isn't it somewhat of a conflict of interest that the city is letting the spouse of a city employee even be an alderman for the same city?
AS A taxpayer in Cape, would I be able to talk the city into raising the manholes where the streets have been resurfaced? Two good examples are at Broadway and Sprigg and Main and Mill. These manhole covers have dropped down 2 to 2 1/2 inches deep. We'd like to be able to keep our auto's wheels in alignment. It would be nice if the city would fix this.
THIS IS a reply to the name-calling individual who told young drivers to grow up. You are a rude and ill-mannered person. I am a teen-ager, and of course I drive. When I'm out driving, many of the sports cars that drive fast and cut through traffic are owned by adults. You should not assume they're driven by teen-agers. Sure, some teen-agers do the things you said, but just as many adults do as well. Several adults have cut me off at four-way stops. They believe that they are older, so they have the right of way. When I come to crowded intersection and need to get in, it's usually a teen-ager that lets me in. You need to keep your name-calling to yourself. I'm sure you were once a teen-ager.
I'M WONDERING about the Republicans talking so much about us not being ready to fight a war. George Bush and Dick Cheney and the military men say we aren't ready to fight a war. I think it's time Bush and his henchmen keep their mouths shut. We are ready to fight a war. They just want Bush to get elected. I think they ought to shut up and not say another word about our country not being prepared, because we are.
I CAN understand why David Limbaugh would call the presidential debates "dirty politics." He's among the rich that Mr. Bush is for. If he only knew how some of the people are taxed who don't have the money he has, he'd understand why most people are going to go with Gore.
IN RESPONSE to "Young drivers, grow up," I fully agree on the number of young drivers sporting a type of road rage in Cape. Never does a law-abiding driver warrant an abusive action by the one in such a hurry, especially our elders, whom I was taught to respect. I'd like to add, however, that there are some elderly who should not share the privilege of driving. It seems most I encounter cannot judge the distance or speed of oncoming traffic. There's a scare that comes over you when you hit your brakes and are unable to change lanes, trying to avoid slamming into an elderly person. I've experienced lane-hogging by some, not being able to judge the space between the lanes. I'm all for driving tests required at retirement age, and every four years after. There seems to be all attention focused on the licensing of teens, and none on the revocation of the ones whose time is up. By the way, these young drivers pay taxes for the schools, the roads, the universities and just about everything they purchase.
I HAD made up my mind to vote for Mel Carnahan for senator weeks ago, and I am still going to vote for him as of now.
IN THE debates, Governor Bush looked and sounded like a president. Al Gore looked and sounded like an autocratic dictator. Bush will keep his oath of office and his promises. Gore will promise you anything and will lie.
I WOULD like to respond the comment, "Against videotaping." I will tell you what I am sick and tired of. It is having to look both ways before you go through a green light anywhere in Cape Girardeau County.
