IN ONE court after another, the River Campus election has failed. It went to court and lost on a technicality. From there it went to a three-judge appellate court, which ruled unanimously against the city and SEMO. Just another technicality, we assume. Onward to court again to get their plow cleaned again. It probably will only cost another $25,000 to $50,000. So what? I would think the Missourian and the mayor would both have been so humiliated. Do they not have any pride or credibility?
I WAS glad to see AmerenUE is considering building a new hydroelectric power plant. If ever there was a pollution-free power plant, hydroelectric has to be it. They don't burn any coal, gas or diesel fuel, so there is absolutely no combustion or pollution. It is just clean. They make a little lake and change the stream a little bit. We will have power with no pollution. I think it's a great idea. Let's go ahead with it. Let's have more hydroelectric dams.
IN A resolution vote the U.S. Senate voted 99-0 against ratifying the Kyoto global warming treaty. Yet Senate Democrats are criticizing President Bush for not signing the treaty even though they voted against it themselves. It is typical Democratic strategy. If they can wrangle some votes from the masses of uninformed people, then the heck with the truth. Clinton taught them well.
I WANT to comment to the renter who was complaining about the landlord not fixing anything. He said he got water in his basement. That is an act of God, and lots of places have water in the basement. It's up to the renter to get water out. If a pipe busted, the landlord would fix the pipe, but the renter would have to get the water out. If you don't like where you are living, then move. That is what you call free enterprise. The landlord is in a business where he has to take care of his customers. If he doesn't, the customers move. That is the way the free-enterprise system works. It is a good system, and I hope if this person does not like where he's renting, then he'll move.
IF YOU have a little black-and-white dog that runs around at the intersection of Stewart Drive and Hopper Road, you would do well to keep him up. The same goes for an orange cat with a fluffy tail. The authorities have been notified.
ABOUT THE on ramp at the Diversion Channel: I'll agree it is not wide or long enough, but it would help if people had enough sense to slow down and let the highway traffic go. They are not supposed to yield. The people coming on are.
THE CALLER who called in about the circle of hell about the roundabout was right. The roundabout is stupid, and they need to remove it. The city pulled blinds over everybody's eyes believing it was going to be good, but it is not. Please remove the piece of junk.
A JUDGE in Cape Girardeau ruled that two children who have been abused and have been taken away from their parents by the state should go back to their parents. And a doctor filed charges and had them taken away from their parents, but a judge rules to give them back. Why? What has America come to? Where is America's backbone?
THE CATS have taken over our garden, flower planter, flower beds and yard. They are using our back yard for a litter box. We've tried mothballs, red pepper and ammonia. We even set a trap. Why do people have pets if they let them go in other people's yards? Does the Humane Society let people adopt these cats without telling them not to let the cats run at large? One person said when people let their animals out to roam, it means they are tired of caring for them at home.
