I WILL tell you who could be ignorant enough to believe that George W. Bush has brought gas prices down all by himself. The same people who believed he was the reason they all went up in the first place.
I'M CALLING in regards to the woman who drowned her five children. That woman needs to be pitied, not condemned. It was wrong, but I'm convinced she didn't know what she was doing. However, I wonder where her husband has his brains that he impregnated her five times in seven years. He is the one that needs to be condemned.
I LIVE at a pretty busy intersection at the corner of Main Street and Roberts Street in Cape. Cars run this stop sign all the time, and nobody has ever done anything about it no matter how we complain. There are little kids who live all around here, and I see people at all hours of the day running this stop sign. When are people going to do something about this?
I AGREE 100 percent with the caller who had a problem with law-enforcement speeding. I received a very substantial speeding ticket in Jackson City Park. On other occasions I saw officers going much faster when they were just patrolling the area. Each officer has the duty to the community to lead by example with their actions, because the law applies to them also.
SO GOV. Bob Holden sets it up for the citizens to be held hostage by the unions. Why? Very simple. He needed to pay off the bills from his extravagant coronation. The unions weren't coming through. Now they will.
I READ the article on Skidmore, Mo., and it reminded me very much of Chaffee, Mo., the difference being the bullies are embraced in that town and protected by the citizens, the court and the police. If there was a review of the court record, that would probably be very evident.
I AM a concerned taxpayer of Cape Girardeau County. I just noticed our most recent accidents with the deputy sheriffs. I think they need to take more caution when driving to scenes and maybe consider taking a driver-safety course.
SINCE DON Dickerson is a lawyer, would he please interpret the meaning of "River Campus proposal fails." If he does not understand, how does he think us dumb suckers understood?
I WOULD like to talk about people who get involved in family affairs and take other kids in other than their own. Instead of telling them to go back home where they belong, they take them in. That's wrong. All of the professionals say it is wrong.
HOW QUICKLY we forget. Before we move too quickly to elevate John Stossel to sainthood, let's not forget than less than a year ago he was forced to go on the air and apologize for misleading and fraudulent reporting regarding pesticide use and the organic food industry. Tell me, does Stossel have an agenda?
I GUESS there is another fiasco the city engineering department can't seem to handle. I just saw in the Southeast Missourian that the bridge on East Rodney may not be ready for the SEMO District Fair. I saw Albertson's build a new bridge in about one month from start to finish because they needed it quickly. Why can't the city finish the East Rodney bridge in three or four months? It does not make sense. I think we need to replace some of the engineers in City Hall. Maybe we would get the roundabout built right or the bridge built on time.
I DO not think the wife of that no-good traitor and FBI spy, Robert Hansen, should receive a thing. He pleaded guilty to espionage charges. She should not receive a dime, and I hope to God that Attorney General John Ashcroft sees to it that she does not. You cannot be married to someone that long and not know anything about what your spouse is doing.
IF YOU did not go to Cape to hear the music on the Fourth of July, you missed a very good program. The music was a reminder of the old days and was appropriate for the holidays.
I WOULD like for the city to look at doing more work on the parking on Broadway. When some people park farther back than the striped parking places and there is someone in the left turn lane, it makes it tough to get through there.
I WENT to watch fireworks. Common sense told us to park farther away from the fireworks so we could more easily leave. One should not whine and complain if they park close to something and get stuck in traffic. From what I could see, the policeman was doing an adequate job on Broadway.
I'M CALLING about the person complaining about "Back the Blue." I understand that many people have concerns over this. But the way I look at it, these people in blue put themselves on the line daily. I think it was really nice to come up with something to help these young men who got shot in the line of duty. As for these two young girls who lost everything in the house fire, I feel sorry for them too. But there is something we have always had that no one thinks about. For less than $10 a month these girls could have had renters' insurance. I feel sorry for the man who died in the fire too. But don't get down on the boys in blue because there was money collected.
