GEORGE W. Bush has brought gas prices down all by himself? No one can be ignorant enough to believe that.
IF ONE could not find a job during President Clinton's years, he didn't look very hard.
MY, MY. How easily some people forget things. A Speak Out caller commented that the only reason we are getting a check in the mail for tax relief was because the Democrats in Congress voted it through. Just a few months back, the Democrat's Dick Gephardt was screaming about how a tax cut would result in more poverty, starving children and a worse economy. Then his party turns around and votes for it. So next time you accuse George W. Bush of starving children and forcing people into poverty by cutting taxes, I'll be happy to remind people that the Democrats are guilty of their own accusations.
I HAVE lived in a few states with little or no tax. Missouri taxes our shorts off. Why? Where does the money go? It is certainly never spent on roads in our area. We have the worst roads I have ever driven on with the notable exception of New York City.
TO THE caller who complained that the father of the five children who were drowned by their mother was chewing gum at the funeral: Being diabetic, my mouth is always dry, so I chew gum to keep my mouth moist. Perhaps the father is not diabetic, but his body was under stress which would have left his mouth dry. He wanted to be able to eulogize each child. It is hard to talk when you have no moisture in your mouth.
IF YOU can pay a doctor to kill your baby, you will be able to pay a doctor to kill you. Your relatives also can pay a doctor to kill you so that they can inherit your estate.
DAVID LIMBAUGH continues to make esoteric references to a creature called National Review Online. I finally summoned up the energy to look into this and find out what it was. Turns out it's a magazine published on the Internet. After reading some of its contents I concluded it would be more appropriate if it were named National Review Off-rocker.
KATHY GOODSON wrote that describing her grandmother as a "balky landowner" was disrespectful. I disagree. To me, the word balky means courageous resistance, refusing to cooperate as a result of deeply held convictions or bucking the establishment for what may be a legitimate reason.
TO THE person who wrote in about the nurses sitting behind the desk eating doughnuts: I am a nurse. I work very hard for my money. I've spent 15 years in health care. I rarely see a nurse sitting down. If she is, she's probably taking a break from the many hassles of having people ordering her around like a servant all day. If you would really look at the nurses, you'll see they're working very hard for you and your family.
I'M SURE I won't be the first or only one to say thank you to all of the sponsors and others involved in Cape's Fourth of July fireworks display. This was a fabulous show, the best ever. We appreciate all the expense and effort that went into it.
WHY DIDN'T the Missourian reporter ask the university administrators what was going to happen to their annuities while the normal people who are working for a living don't get a raise? Why didn't you pose that question?
I THINK it's ridiculous how Cape and Jackson are bragging about how much they're spending on fireworks when there are a lot of people out there who need help. The cities will soon ask the citizens to donate to help the poor people when the fireworks money would have gone a long ways.
A SPEAK Out caller complained about law-enforcement officers speeding. One important reason may be that the officer was relaying. Relaying is when a county uses their law enforcement officers, be it city, county, or highway patrol, to get something important to the next county. The important something could be papers, blood or even human organs. Their lights and signs do not necessarily have to be on in order for them to drive as fast and safely as possible to get to their county line to meet the next relay officer. The highway patrol uses its officers to relay blood to St. Louis quite often.
I SEE Vice President Cheney has had another heart procedure. Are we taxpayers paying for his $25,000 pacemaker? I would guess that we are, because I'm sure that he's not paying for it.
